While most of my time is spent dedicated to these pages, I keep busy with some extracurricular activities as well. The Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals series was back in action at the 15th Annual NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals Presented by MAHLE Motorsport at Rockingham Dragway and fans were treated to a bevy of muscle cars from the classics to the most modern machines.

Rockingham Dragway was built in 1969 by developers Bill Land and L.G. Dewitt as a companion to the NASCAR oval track that occupied real estate across U.S. Highway 1.

Sharp racer minds have been around a long time. And once such group spent their days dressed in white and black skinny ties in dyno cells, drafting rooms, and endless catacombs of Chrysler’s Highland Park Engineering Facility located in Detroit.

Despite the effort, there’s a thrill to heads-up racing that magnetizes people. We’re aware of this and thankfully, NMCA has made it easy for racers to get involved in a true heads-up class where a smart racer can find him or herself competitive without breaking the proverbial bank.

The year was 1971 when a young Don Fotti laid out $2,450 cash for his first performance car, a 1968 Cobra Jet Mustang that was just three years old. And while the car fulfilled his childhood dream, he never imagined he’d continue going wide open on drag strips all over North America 50 year later.

NMRA and NMCA drag racing action returns to Rockingham Dragway next weekend (April 13-16) for the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals presented by Mahle Motorsports. This is the first of three events on the tour where NMRA and NMCA racers compete at the same venue.
