Ice Cream & Horsepower as the NMCA Redline Synthetic Oil Drag Racing Series heads to Norwalk, Ohio

America’s Racetrack, better known as Summit Motorsports Park, will once again be filled with modern and historic muscle cars as the Redline Oil NMCA Drag Racing series returns for the Mickey Thompson NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Sick the Mag, Aug. 24-27.

Billed as the ultimate muscle car bash, the Norwalk event features a full roster of NMCA championship classes including VP Racing Lubricants Pro Mod, Holley EFI Factory Super Cars, Dart N/A 10.5, ARP Nitrous Pro Street, and the popular Edelbrock Xtreme Street category.

But wait, there’s more. Much more.

Fans who frequent Summit Motorsports Park are well aware that the track sets a high bar, and frequently overdelivers, which helps explain the addition of bonus features including Tom Bailey’s Drag & Drive Invitational, COPO Camaro and Cobra Jet Shootouts, the NMCA vs. Buckeye Stock /Super Stock All-Stars Class, nostalgia super stockers, True Street and Hemi racing, a giant car show and huge manufacturers midway to name a few attractions.

The Norwalk pits will be filled with the largest gathering of COPO Camaros competing in the Chevrolet Performance & COPO Parts Direct sponsored Shootout. This event provides a showcase for the awesome performance of both modern and historic factory-built (and cloned) Chevrolet race cars. The COPO Battle will feature handicap racing in an Open Comp format with the winner receiving $3,000, a coveted NMCA Victor Award, and a Champion’s ring to be presented at the PRI awards ceremony in December.

The COPO Heads-up Battle is just that, with a first-to-the-finish-line format with the winner taking home $2,500, an NMCA Victor award, a champion’s ring (presented at the PRI awards ceremony) and a $1,000 COPO Parts Direct Product certificate!

Ford lovers will also have something to cheer for with the Cobra Jet Showdown presented by Watson Racing. Similar to the COPO events, the Cobra Jet Showdown is a showcase for the old and new factory Mustang (and other CJ) race cars from Ford. The winner of the handicap-style event will receive $1,000 plus an additional $1,000 contingency payment from Ford.

Many of the world’s quickest and fastest street-legal cars will also be in action when Tom Bailey presents the Drag & Drive Invitational, a special event for racers who participate in the growing drag and drive movement. Bailey has held several similar events in conjunction with NMCA and NMRA events over the past few years and they have received rave reviews in large part due to the performance and the diversity of the vehicles involved.

The competition will be fierce as the stars of the NMCA Micro Strategies Super Stock and Stock classes take on their rivals from the Buckeye Stock/Super Stock Association in an All-Star race featuring a 32-car field made up of the points leaders in the NMCA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock, and Buckeye Stock/Super Stock Drag Racing classes. This is a serious battle with a lot of pride on the line.

Another fan favorite is the Factory Appearing Stock Tire (F.A.S.T.) group, which will return to showcase the best in vintage muscle car racing. There are two classes dedicated to the coolest period-correct muscle cars on stock tires, but don’t let those skinny bias-ply rubber bands fool you. While these cars go to great lengths to look as if they are showroom stock, their performance tells a different story as nine-second runs are the norm for many of the top contenders. We expect a slew of Chevrolet, Buick, Ford, Mopar and many of your favorite brands to be in play.

Got a new Mopar? The Late-Model Hemi Shootout is your personal playground and Dodge will even pay your entry! The Hemi Shootout is filled with late-model Hemi powered Challengers, Chargers, Jeeps and more and the racing is very fun, with a True Street format and a quick 8.

Other popular features that fans won’t want to miss are the TorqStorm Superchargers True Street class with nine different awards for all levels of performance from 7-second street cars to 15-second daily drivers, as well as the amazing NMCA Car and Truck Show & Shine featuring both late-model and vintage muscle cars and trucks in a variety of modified and stock categories.
