NMCA Racer Kurt Neighbor Claims SS/B Class title at NHRA US Nationals

Veteran NMCA drag racer Kurt Neighbor, who regularly tears up the track in his 1965 “Cammer” Comet, is in competition at the 68th running of the NHRA US Nationals at historic Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. After two rounds of qualifying, Neighbor, driving his familiar red 1964 Ford Thunderbolt, was solidly in the show with a 9.00 pass that earned him the 53rd spot. There are currently 143 cars in Super Stock for 128 spots.

At Indy, Stock and Super Stock racers first compete in the heads-up “Class Eliminations” and then the top 1298 qualifiers race for the big trophy, with the finals taking place on Monday. Neighbor made the SS/B Class final, where he faced the SS/B 4-speed Big-Block Corvette of Steve Kent. In the truest of Ford vs Chevy battles, Neighbor outran Kent, turning a 9.06 at 147 mph to top the Vette, which ran 9.17 at 144 mph.
