Six-Days of Drag Racing Kicks off at the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals
With 943 cars entered for the week-long extravaganza, the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park is set to thrill drag racing fans. This is the 68th running of the famous race that kicks off today with sportsman action, In fact, many competitors cross over between NMCA and NHRA competition, especially in the Stock and Super Stock categories.
The “Big Go” as it’s called by many racers, features sportsman and pro classes, along with off-track activities. Fans will see all their favorite pros, along with historical cars including Gassers, front-engine dragsters and Funny Cars in the show area. The racing will be hot, with Stock and Super Stock Class eliminations and the classic Hemi cars will square off as will in heads-up competition. Pro qualifying begins Friday.
Sportsman eliminations continue Friday, highlighted by the 21st annual Dodge Hemi Challenge, along with qualifying in the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes, the Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown, FuelTeach Pro Mod, Mountain Motor Pro Stock, and Top Fuel Harley, and crowned by the first of five qualifying sessions for the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series teams.
Saturday will be highlighted by the completion of the Top Fuel portion of the Pep Boys NHRA All-Star Callout, which began earlier this year in Gainesville before being halted by rain, and the annual JEGS Allstars competition for Sportsman racers, along with the continuation of Sportsman qualifying and eliminations, and the second and third rounds of qualifying for the Camping World Drag Racing Series teams. Ultimately, on Monday NHRA will crown the champions at the 68th annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals.
