Video Inside Take A Ride with Street Outlaw/X275 Racer Brian Criste

Posted By: Event Coverage Team
In today's street-legal drag racing world it seems as if the LS and small-block Ford dominate the small tire ranks, such as NMCA/NMRA Street Outlaw and X275 and Xtreme Street/Renegade/Ultra Street. So when we spot a powerplant that isn't either of those platforms, we tend to get excited. Current NMCA racer, who is also an old school NMCA competitor from the '90s, Brian Criste hauls his 1989 Chevy Camaro Z28 throughout the country chasing the NMCA points. Powering the Camaro is a traditional small-block Chevy, yes it might be the most popular engine in the hot rodding circles but in the small-tire world it is a rare occurrence to come across one. Criste tapped the noted and legendary Fast Times Motorworks to build the 436ci SBC and they added a set of MBE billet cylinder heads, custom sheetmetal intake manifold, and a Precision 88mm turbocharger. Criste is currently sitting sixth in NMCA Street Outlaw with his turbocharged Camaro and some recent updates has him focused on a solid second half of the season. He recently made the trip to Emerald Coast Dragway, located in Holt, Florida in the panhandle section, to participate in an X275 shootout during the Coastal Mayhem event and he walked away with a new career best time of 4.45 at 160 mph. You can catch Criste and the rest of the Mickey Thompson Street Outlaw class at the upcoming NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing the weekend of July 25-28 at Route 66 Raceway.
