In addition to providing the excitement of crowning world champions at the upcoming NMCA World Finals presented by Chevrolet Performance, VP Racing Lubricants Pro Mod fans will get a special treat with the return of Craig Sullivan and his popular El Mero Mero 1949 Mercury Custom.

“We broke a Bogart rear wheel at a non-NMCA event earlier this year while racing at Summit Motorsports Park. We went up in the air, turned sideways and we almost flipped over,” said Sullivan. It tore the whole body up, took out a portion of the rear chassis section of the car and there was other minor damage as well. It needed new roof and quarters, plus body mounts and naturally we had to wrap the entire car again,” he added.

The incident sidelined Sullivan, who despite missing the last two NMCA races remains 5th in the championship points chase with 1,380 points. Ty Tutterow currently leads the class with 2,485 points.

“We’ve been out for a few months. It’s been a lot of hard work to get it ready, but we’re excited to come back,” said Sullivan. “We won Indy two years ago and we’re planning to win it again if things go our way. We need to win in order to get back up to second in the standings, which is possible,” he noted. “Honestly, Indy is our home track, it’s the home of the NHRA U.S. Nationals and the NMCA World Finals is typically a race where we do well. We’ll be in front of the home crowd, so a win would mean a lot.”

“The last two months has been difficult, but we got it done and I have to thank Larry Jeffers and the team at Larry Jeffers Race Cars, along with Menscer Motorsports for checking out the shocks, plus Fuel Tech and Kryptonite for going over all the electronics in the car. Lastly, I wanted to thank Joe Oplawski at Hyperaktive Performance Solutions.”

Fans wanting to see Craig Sullivan and his El Mero Mero can attend the NMCA World Finals presented by Chevrolet Performance September 21-24 where all the NMCA Red Line Synthetic Oil champions will be crowned.
