Flamholc Flies to 3.84 after Going from Roller to Race Car in Days

Mere moments after impacting the wall in his 1963 Corvette at the 12th Annual NMRA/NMCA Nitto Tire Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing on July 29, 2017 at Route 66 Raceway in Illinois, NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod powerhouse Adam Flamholc began charting his next course. It led him to Indiana to pick up the 2012 Mustang he had previously purchased, and then to Chris Duncan Race Cars in Chandlerville, Illinois, where Flamholc and his fiercely competitive crew joined Duncan's crew to take the Mustang from rolling chassis to race car within three days so that Flamholc could keep his date with the Street Car Super Nationals, Aug. 3-5, 2017 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois. Together they worked around-the-clock to install into the Mustang the powerplant that had been in the Corvette, a 526ci Hemi built by Hameetman Racing Engines and MMR Racing, Flamholc's company, and Roots-style supercharger massaged by Mike Janis, and to make adjustments to the front end of the Mustang to accommodate the combination. They also made a pour-in seat for Flamholc, which served as a sign to the throngs of fans following them and their progress that they had hit their mark and were ready to roll into the race. There, they qualified in the eleventh position with a 4.22 and 143 mph, despite the fact that they had a soft tune-up in the combination to start with and that the car was shooting to the left. We struggled a bit to start with during qualifying, and we couldn't get the onboard computer to work, and when we finally did, we had some issues with some electronics, said Flamholc, who proudly flies banners for sponsors 5 Day Plantation Shutters & Blinds, R&R Rods, Hameetman Racing Engines, MMR Racing and Amalie Oil on his car. Once the computer gave me the information I needed, we adjusted the car. All eyes were on the wicked white Mustang in the first round of eliminations, and while it went straight as it shot off the starting line, the engine shut off 1.5 seconds into the run, and Flamholc was forced to watch his opponent take the win light. Confident that he and his crew were cruising in the right direction and could collect a 3-second timeslip, however, he bought back into the race and laid down an incredible 3.84 at 197 mph on his way to the round win, and while he made it to the final round of the buy-back race, rain forced an early end to the event. It was very, very relieving for all of us, said Flamholc. It's been tough both financially and mentally since the NMCA event in Bowling Green, with the accident we had with our truck and trailer after Bowling Green which made me buy another truck and get the trailer repaired, and then with the crash in Joliet, which led to all the work on the new car. Now, the well-known and well-liked driver from Sweden will take a few days off before battling to hold his first place position in NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod points at the 16th Annual Honeywell Garrett NMCA All-American Nationals, Aug. 24-27, at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio and the 16th Annual SCPC Race Shop NMCA World Street Finals, Sept. 21-24 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana. My crew, Rasmus Solberg, Daryl Hameetman, Mattias Flamholc and Mike Canter really stepped up to the plate, as usual, and worked extremely late hours, said Flamholc. We did all the work at Chris Duncan's shop, where Chris, Jonas Aleshire and the rest of the guys there did an incredible job to help us get this done. I feel very motivated going in to the final two races in the series, and will do whatever I can to stay in top in the points.
