Drag Radial Champion Manna Moving to Street Outlaw at NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl

Posted By: Mike Galimi
Anthony Manna may have motored into this year as the reigning Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series Drag Radial champion, but he's preparing to pound pavement in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw at the12th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, July 27-30 at Route 66 Raceway in Illinois. Drag Radial isn't part of this race, but I wanted to race and figured it would be a good time to try Street Outlaw and see what happens, said Manna. If I like it, which I think I will, I'll run more Street Outlaw races. While he had muscled his way to a 4.21 and 180 mph in his 1998 Camaro with a combination consisting of an AES-built 427ci LSX engine, All Pro 12-4 heads, CID intake, twin 88mm Precision turbos and a Proformance Racing Transmissions-built two-speed Turbo 400, Manna has made some changes to be in compliance with VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw rules. He moved to a 98mm Precision turbo and from 315 Mickey Thompson drag radials to 275 Mickey Thompson drag radials. He also swapped the 4:10 gearing in his car's rear-end to 3:90 gearing and is trying a different converter, though he's tight-lipped on converter specs. I had to change and build all of the turbo piping, but I made it so that it will be easily transferable from twin turbos to a single turbo, which will allow me to run Limited Drag Radial in addition to Street Outlaw, said Manna. I really have to thank Precision for helping me choose a turbo and Motion Raceworks for helping me get it. Manna, who tunes his combination with Big Stuff 3, is aiming for 4.40s or 4.50 for starters in the car which currently weighs 3200 pounds, and because he won't have time to test the new power-adder set-up prior to this weekend's race, he'll be rolling the dice when he rolls into the race track.
