Thursday Coverage 12th Annual NMRA/NMCA Nitto Tire Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing

Test and tune is underway here at Rt 66 Raceway in Joliet Illinois as we kick off the 12th Annual NMRA/NMCA Nitto Tire Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing presented by Precision Turbo. The action is poised to be intense, as we've seen over 200 racers through the gate before lunch time. The track is hot with test and tune runs and we'll be bringing you the latest news from the pits throughout the day. Team MMR will be entering two cars in VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod category this weekend. Mark Luton's sleek, silver S550 Mustang now shares a stablemate in this bright orange S550 Mustang that will be driven by Greg Seth-Hunter. Both cars are powered by MMR's billet Coyote powerplant with twin Garrett turbochargers. Tony Bischoff's SN95 Mustang is making its competition debut this weekend in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw, and it will be the only naturally aspirated combination in the class. Making the horsepower for mid 4-second, eighth-mile elapsed times is a 700 cubic inch, 5-inch bore space big -block built by Nick where he works at Bischoff Engine Service. The power plant features one of the largest and most odd-looking intake manifolds that we've seen, but we get the idea it just covers up the top secret induction tweaks inside. BES employee Nick Bacalis will be behind the wheel this weekend, and it'll be a trip to watch the car his the track with its A-Fuel dragster injector hat. Bridgewater, Massachusetts' Manny Bugging is fielding two cars this weekend and both in the Street Outlaw category. Bugging will drive his turbocharged, 2003 Cobra clone and Rich Bruder will be at the wheel of the former Sorby brothers and Dan Seitz notchback Mustang that Bugging has since purchased and outfitted with a ProCharger F-1X-12R engine combination. Mickey Thompson Radial Wars driver Josh Klugger has equipped his Racecraft-built Mustang coupe with a new pair of Garrett turbochargers. Rumor in the pits is that these are the turbochargers to have currently, with several other racers making the switch as well. The time clocks will tell soon enough if the gamble was worth it.
