Many racers have rolled in early to take part in today's test session at the NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Sick the Magazine, which will run through Sunday at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Judging by reaction times and elapsed-times, they are ready for some very close competition this weekend. We'll post a couple of stories today to get things going, and we'll post separate coverage through Sunday.

NMCA racers taking part in today’s test session are seeing the new scoreboards installed at Summit Motorsports Park last month. The illuminated numbers are bright and easy to read, even from a distance, and the park has had positve feedback on them. Summit Motorsports Park is the first race track that Sunshine Electronic Display has supplied scoreboards for. Other companies involved in the project were Commercial Sign, JSL, Johnny's Crane and Wrecker, Trinity Products and CompuLink, among others, and all had help from Summit Motorsports Park Facility Manager Jim Altomare.
Tim Barton made the trip from Long Island, New York to give ARP Nitrous Pro Street a try for the first time this weekend, and we’re confident his 1973 Nova built by HFR Fabrication will command attention. In addition to being a beautiful bright yellow, it’s powered by a nitrous- enhanced 638 cubic-inch big-block Chevrolet engine by Jack Boer, and Barton’s previous passes in another series prove that he will be one to watch. “We had been racing another series, and thought we would come and give NMCA a shot,” said Barton.
Dart NA 10.5 racer Kevin Cody debuted his new 700 cubic-inch BES-built Ford engine at the Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA Power Festival presented by TorqStorm Superchargers in July at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan. He proceeded to put down an 8.40 on a conservative tune, and stepped up to an 8.20 on the next pass. Unfortunately, he ended up with a broken rocker adjuster on Saturday, but with help from Tony Bischoff and team members Kevin Sievers, Lenny Hughes and Russ Melsner, he was back in action in time for the first round of eliminations. Cody, of Dearborn, Michigan, shared with us that he recorded an 8.02 to Rocko Khoury’s winning 7.96, and is looking forward to picking up where he left off at this weekend's event at Summit Motorsports Park. “After the issue we had in Michigan, we were happy to run an 8.02 in the extreme heat,” said Cody. “There is an 7.90 in the combination, and we’ll get there.”
