Tech Review: Philadelphia Racing Products Billet Valve and Valley Covers for LS Engines

Posted By: Steve Baur
Philadelphia Racing Products (PRP) has a knack for improving on currently available products and has a dozen CNC machines whittling billet aluminum into components that look great, function as designed, and outperform most. The company provides racers and enthusiasts with quality American-made products such as its billet valve covers and valley covers for LS engines.

PRP’s Billet Valve Covers are machined from 6061 aluminum and machined for a precision fit. The company’s engineers designed them to be lightweight and offers a 2-inch inside height to accommodate all aftermarket rocker arm assemblies.

To ensure a painless installation and maintenance, PRP equipped the valve covers with a threaded oil fill hole, stock-style rubber gaskets, included stainless steel hardware, and a clear or anodized finish for long-lasting good looks.

Turning to the valley cover, the stock piece was a great upgrade over previous designs with its factory O-ring sealing, but it isn’t at all appealing and many feature the problematic knock sensor bung. PRP’s Valley Cover is a smooth design that offers additional clearance to allow for the removal of displacement-on-demand, and features an ample gasket sealing surface. Made from 6061 aluminum, the valley cover fits LS1, LS3 engines and is available in a black anodized finish.

“We make it all in house,” said PRP’s Rich Schonberger of his company’s numerous billet products. “It helps to be a racer. You always see what is needed and ways to do things better.”

If you’re in the process of upgrading your valvetrain as well, Philadelphia Racing Products also offers billet rocker stands for stock and aftermarket LS cylinder heads that will help shore up your valvetrain during those high rpm situations.
