19th Annual Whipple Superchargers NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Holbrook Racing Engines NMCA Muscle Car Nationals Car Show By Steve Turner Photography by the FSC staff After a long off-season the muscle cars rolled into Bradenton Motorsports Park for the 19th Annual Whipple Superchargers NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Holbrook Racing Engines. Not only was there exciting quarter-mile on the racetrack, but there was a show field full of fabulous machines. With sunny skies and a stout turnout, the judges had a herculean task choosing the top rides across every make and model on display. Best of Show ? Allen Gregory ? 1965 Ford Econoline Pickup It can be difficult to stand out in a group of finely groomed, often custom muscle machines, but when you turn the tables on a custom 1965 Ford Econoline pickup that will do the trick. Not only does is this pickup powered by 502-cube engine topped by a massive Roots blower in its bed, but it drives, well, backwards. Not only does Allen Gregory of Port Richey, Florida, peer out over the bed, which is fitted with headlights, but there are wheelie bars protruding from what used to be the front of this Ford. This one will definitely stop you in your tracks, and it stopped the judges long enough to earn Best of Show honors. Looking every bit the show stopper rom the outside, Charles Brisco?s 1979 Camaro continued that theme under the hood. Despite the car making the long trip down from Nashville, Tennessee, it was clean outside and in the engine compartment. It was the latter that garnered Best Engine honors at Bradenton. It doesn?t get more classic than a ?57 Chevy, and Ronnie Staples made the quick trip from Lakewood Ranch, Florida, to grab Best Interior award at 19th Annual Whipple Superchargers NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Holbrook Racing Engines. With such fierce competition on the property, Pat Harvey of Sarasota, Florida, shined the brightest. His 1937 Ford nabbed the Best Body & Paint award. On Saturday afternoon all the winners gathered together to celebrate their victories. Bringing his ?68 Camaro to Bradenton Motorsports Park for the NMCA season opener car show is tradition for Chuck Woosley for the past 16 years. It?s also common for the car, which he resurrected after it served as a daily driver for several teenagers, to take home an award. Woosley bought the car in the early ?80s, performed a frame-off resto, and swapped in the drivetrain from his wrecked ?69 Rally Sport. This year Woosley?s Camaro sped away with Director?s Choice Best GM honors on Saturday. It wasn?t all classic machinery at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Lynn Thatcher?s low-slung, Whipple-supercharged 2016 Camaro SS sped home to Nokomis, Florida, with the Best Late Model award in the passenger seat. Repping for the Mopar crowd, Wayne Adams took home the Best Chrysler Muscle award with his clean1967 Plymouth Satellite. Earning the Outstanding GM A-Body honors were John & Pam Smith from right in Bradenton, Florida. The couple?s sleek, ebony 1968 Pontiac GTO still looks like it could rule the streets in the late ?60s. As the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals season opener wound down, Sunday?s winners came together to collect their hard-earned hardware.
