We're greeted with a great weather forecast on this final day of the Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Force Engineering at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan. Temperatures will be in the 60s all morning and in the low to mid-70s all afternoon, with blue skies beaming. There are more than 600 race cars on the property known as "The Fastest Track in Michigan," and there will be some stellar passes from racers aiming for the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle.

Qualifying was off the charts all day yesterday, and even though it was nearing midnight as the final pair of cars went down track, racers remained focused. Among them were lead qualifiers Jim Widener, who wheeled to a 3.70 in VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod, Brian Keep, who blasted to a 4.66 in Edelbrock Xtreme Street/Renegade, Tony Gillig, who trapped a 4.36 in ARP Nitrous Pro Street, Rob Goss, who rounded up a4.28 in Mickey Thompson Street Outlaw and Ronnie Hackelton, who ran to a 10.18 in Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series Chevrolet Performance Stock. Brian Keep came to this race with the lead in NMCA Edelbrock Xtreme Street points, and wants to leave this race with the lead in points. The Florida-based driver, who has a win and record-setting 4.525 and 154.05 mph passes in the category under his belt, is definitely capable of going to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle in his Camaro packing a 427 cubic-inch small-block Chevrolet engine built by HRE Racing Engines, topped with All Pro heads, fronted by a ProCharger F-1A-91 and backed by an RPM Transmissions-built Turbo 400 and Ultimate Converter Concepts converter. He led qualifying with a 4.66 and is ready for the first round of eliminations today, with help from Tim Travis and Lee Latozke of Latozke Racing Heads. The air has come to our blower combination, and we expect to go faster today, said Keep, who also holds his own in Ultra Street and is this weekend helping Edelbrock Xtreme Street racer Jessie Coulter and Dart NA 10.5 presented by Diamond Pistons racer Bob Williams of All Pro. We made a couple minor adjustments, and we're in good shape.
Holley EFI Factory Super Cars standout Chris Holbrook hit the tires and hauled to an incredible 7.56 and 184 mph on his way to winning the first round of eliminations this afternoon, and those times are quicker and faster than the 7.66 and 181.06 mph he claimed as records earlier in the season. Holbrook, who won at the NMCA event at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, is on the hunt for another chance to head to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle this weekend in his Varsity Ford Mustang Cobra Jet powered by a Holbrook Racing Engines-built 327 cubic-inch Coyote engine, Whipple supercharger and Turbo 400 by Joel's on Joy.
Drivers in NMCA TorqStorm Superchargers and NMRA QA1 True Street had nice scenery for their 30-mile cruise before returning to the track for their three passes. Rick Baum earned the overall win with a 9.23 in his Mustang, while Shawn McAlees earned the runner-up finish with a 9.75 average in his Firebird. Other successful racers included Jason Wagoner, the 10-second winner in his GT500, Bob Hoffman, the 11-second winner in his Buick, Billy Meier, the 12-second winner in his Mustang, Michael Town, the 13-second winner in his Challenger, Cody Dronkers, the 14-second winner in his Mustang and Rodney Ward, the 15-second winner in his Fusion.
In the popular Dodge // Mopar HEMI Shootout, John Keyes was the overall winner with a 9.89 average, while Tom Motycka was the runner-up with a 10.02 average. Others in the spotlight included Alan Scruggs with the 10-second win, Jim Burr with the 11-second win, Jeff Smith with the 12-second win and Alan Scanlan with the 13-second win and David Baker with the 14-second win. In the Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge, Don Dixon drove to the overall win with an 10.38 average in his GTO, while Norm Jensen drove to the runner-up finish with a 10.42 average in his Camaro.
