It was announced early on in the event that, due to the Georgia weather threatening to rain out Sunday's shenanigans, the 5th Annual Chevrolet Performance Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia, would be run on a shortened schedule with test and tune on Friday, June 3rd, and qualifying and eliminations both being run on Saturday, June 4th, 2016. Spectators got to enjoy two days worth of racing in just one day, and despite a few quick rain delays, racers got the peace of mind knowing their classes would be run to completion.
In addition to some seriously cool all-GM drag racing, the CP Nationals features a car show chock full of mind-bogglingly beautiful builds, a huge vendor midway, meet-and-greet sessions with Street Outlaws celebrities Doc and Monza, and so much more.
In the JE Pistons LSX Drag Radial, Joe DeDona and his 02 Corvette topped the qualifying list with a 5.092 at 149.81 mph, but it was the number three qualifier, Mark Carlyle, who went on to take the overall win with a 4.840 at 163.02 mph hit in his 07 Corvette over Paul Falcon's 5.623 at 127.64 mph effort with his 98 Firebird in the finals.
Holley EFI LSX Real Street was hotly contested, but it was George Toll who came out on top after qualifying thanks to a 7.690 at 180.09 mph run. He was perfectly positioned for success in eliminations, and expertly drove his 02 Trans Am to defeat Jessie Coulter and his 91 Camaro in the last round of the day for a trip to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle.
It was the battle of the 01 Firehawks in LME Street King where Shawn Calabrese was the big winner. Calabrese pushed his Hawk to a 10.913 at 115.82 mph run in the finals over Taylor Lumsden.
Tom Calabrese was the only driver left standing after eliminations had been completed for Proform LSX Rumble, which he won in his 10 Camaro SS over Alan Kasper in his 00 Camaro.
Meanwhile, the new Camaro defeated the old in Scoggin-Dickey Performance Center Chevrolet Performance Stock. After all rounds of eliminations had been completed, it was number-one qualifier Glenn Pushis in his 13 model who saw his scoreboard light with the win as his 10.380 at 127.44 mph hit was successful against Kevin Lumsden and his 99 edition's 10.435 at 127.21 mph pass.

Taking the overall category win was Kyle Cumpton who had an average of 9.272-seconds in his boosted Chevy II Nova, while Craig Smith's average of 11.071-seconds in his Pontiac GTO earned him the runner-up spot. In the 11-second category, Adam Toney took top honors with his Pontiac Trans Am, followed by the Chevy Camaro SS of Tom Calabrese in the 12-second category, Terry Barnett with his Camaro in the 13-second category, and John Greiner rounded out the pack for the 14-second group in his Pontiac G8.
In the Bracket categories, both Saturday and Sunday's races were condensed into Saturday's timeframe. For the first set, Thomas Bell was right on the money and took the win in the finals against Deborah Fitzpatrick in Bracket 1. In Bracket 2, Chad Brewer defeated Harold Wilson for the win, while Tim Clark overtook Ted Carter in Bracket 3.
