Peterson, McAfee to enter NMCA NA 10.5 Class

Posted By: Event Coverage Team
No stranger to naturally aspirated racing, former Fun Ford Weekend Street Warrior Champion Darrell Peterson will be entering the NMCA's Quick Lane of Downs Ford NA 10.5 with car co-owner Brian McAfee. The two have been running this fox-body Mustang off and on at local events for years, but a bad wheel stand and the repairs needed after it sidelined their fun for quite some time. Eventually, it took Chassis Engineering in south Florida to straighten out the super clean hatchback. Meanwhile, Tim Eichhorn at MPR Racing Engines had the engine and upgraded it as time went on. The powerplant, interestingly enough, came from another Fun Ford Weekend competitor, Rod Houck who used to run the naturally aspirated Street Bandit class. Originally a 400ci small-block Ford, the engine and its Pro King heads were upgraded a few times while the chassis was down for repairs, and a custom billet intake manifold from Groove Automation was added. Now measuring 430ci, the SBF will be managed by a Holley Dominator EFI system with a G-Force GF5R five-speed manual gearbox behind it. Ideally, Peterson and McAfee will try to get some testing in locally and debut the Mustang at the NMCA Finals in Norwalk in August, however, a debut at the 2017 season opener in Bradenton, Florida, is probably more likely for the south-Florida-based team.
