NMCA vs. Buckeye Stock/Super Stock Allstars Returns for 2023 Season

Who is the best Super Stock/Stock racer in the land? We’re about to find out when the stars of the Red Line Oil NMCA Micro Strategies S/SS series takes on the Buckeye Stock/Super Stock Drag Racing Series in a special 32-car showdown to be held at the Mickey Thompson NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Sick Week.

A field of 32 of the sport’s best Class racers will converge on Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park for the event, officially labeled the NMCA vs. Buckeye Stock/Super Stock Allstars, presented by A&A Transmission.

The winner of the event will take home a generous $2,000 payday along with bragging rights as well as the highly coveted NMCA “Victor” trophy. The Micro Strategies Super Stock and Stock classes have long been a cornerstone of NMCA competition with nearly 60 combined entries through the first four events of the 2023 season.

The 32-car field will be made up of the top five in points for both the NMCA Micro Strategies Stock Eliminator and Micro Strategies Super Stock Eliminator classes, along with the top 10 in points for the Buckeye team, which runs its events as a single combination class of Stock and Super Stock racers. Then, the top points earner will be able to select a blocker from the non-seeded cars, and the remaining slots will be filled from the top qualifiers in Stock and Super Stock after Q1.

The NMCA field will be loaded with talented drivers including current championship leaders Mark Nowicki (Super Stock) and Bruce Boyle (Stock). The rest of the Super Stock contenders include Dennis Breeden, former NHRA world champion Amy Faulk, Joe Ewing, and Augustus Adkins with his awesome Super Stock, stick-shift AMX. In addition to Boyle, the Stock field will consist of George Cox, Dave Swanson, Randy Eakins, and Doug Duell.

As of June 20, the current Top 10 in the Buckeye Stock/Super Stock Association consists of Darrell Ciaravino, Jeff Ross, Ed McCormick, Casey F. Johnson, Aaron Russell, Corey Griffith, Brad Ross, Eugene Chips, Mike Walter, and Jeff Day. The next event, which will help set the field, will be held July 1-2 at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio.

The special event was launched in 2022 when a discussion between NMCA’s Jim Bailey and Buckeye Stock/Super Stock series’ Jeff Ross regarding ways to have the local organization support the NMCA race at Summit Motorsports Park.

“We came up with the idea of putting his top 10 against our top five in Stock and Super Stock,” said Bailey, whose vast driving experience includes nearly every class from Stock to Top Fuel. “We talked it over with Rollie [Miller] and kept working on it throughout [2022] and picked up some sponsorship with A&A Transmission.”

In last year’s inaugural NMCA vs. Buckeye Stock/Super Stock Allstars, presented by A&A Transmission, Aaron Allison picked up the victory after a foul start by final round opponent Ryan Rudrick.
