Libersher Landing in New NMCA Factory Super Cars Category

Posted By: Mike Galimi
Ever since it was announced that the new Holley EFI Factory Super Cars category would be contested at all six NMCA events in 2016, excitement and enthusiasm has been building among racers and race fans of Chevrolet COPO Camaros, Dodge Challenger Drag Paks and Ford Cobra Jet Mustangs. Among them is Scott Libersher, of Joliet, Illinois, who has been racing his silver 2015 COPO Camaro in NHRA Factory Stock but will introduce it to the new NMCA category beginning with the 14th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 10-13, at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. The car powered by a naturally aspirated 427 cubic-inch LS engine and featuring a Holley EFI system delivered Libersher to consistent low nines in competition last year, but he's poised to pick up this year. Turnkey Automotive in Oxford, Michigan did some tuning on the chassis and the engine about two weeks ago, and we're hoping they found some power, said Libersher. They went into it a little bit, and made some tweaks, and they made a custom air intake. Libersher 2 While Libersher, who's currently running a Coan transmission, declines to share the specifics on those tweaks, he will share that he's currently testing at Bradenton Motorsports Park, and now proudly holds several timeslips indicating he's a new member of the high 8.90s club. He credits much of that to the work done at Turnkey Automotive, and to the fact that he and his crew, including his wife, Kim Libersher, son-in-law Dan Condon and Rich Rinke from Turnkey Automotive, have been busy making gear changes in the Coan transmission, as well as in the car's factory rear-end, made by Strange Engineering. They're just minor gear ratio changes, as you can go up or down on the ratio, from 4.86 to 4.57, said Libersher. But we're hoping those changes will get us a little more in testing today, and we're looking forward to running with the NMCA this weekend. Libersher 3Photos courtesy of Scott Libersher
