The late-model COPO Camaro has been a success for Chevrolet Performance with racers, collectors, and speculators alike grabbing each batch of 69 cars that are assembled each year. Giving more options to potential COPO customers, Chevrolet Performance began offering COPO Camaro Rolling Chassis or CRC, which for half the price delivered a race car built on the same production line as the COPO, minus the factory powertrain options. Racers are then free to build them for whatever class or sanctioning body they want to run in. The NMCA has seen a number of CRC COPOs competing across several classes. Both Ronnie Hackelton and Glenn Pushis used the CRC platform as the basis of their Chevrolet Performance Stock race cars, with Pushis collecting a championship with his. Pushis eventually moved up to the Holley EFI Factory Super Car category, but his CPS car is currently campaigned in the class by Scott Brown. Daren Poole-Adams is another CRC owner who races with the NMCA in the Coan Engineering Stock/Super Stock Combo class. While the Fifth-Gen-based CRC has been a big hit, the COPO Camaro has since moved to the updated 6th-Gen Camaro chassis and with it have come a number of improvements that make the COPO Camaro and CRC better race cars. The price is still a bargain for the race-ready chassis that you can buy, and when purchasing one through a company like Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center, you can order a factory built crate motor or something more specialized from the Scoggin-Dickey Race Shop at the same time. We had a chance to talk about the latest CRC with Scoggin-Dickey's Keith Wilson at the NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Whipple Superchargers, which featured the 50th Anniversary COPO Camaro Shootout where over 70 COPO and CRC Camaros were racing for a spot in the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle.
