While Jackie Slone soared to a 3.90 and 192 mph in his 1969 Camaro in NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod competition in 2017, he's set on going even quicker and faster in 2018.
To help him achieve that, he has replaced his nitrous-enhanced 855ci Chevrolet engine with a Musi Racing Engines-built 959ci Chevrolet engine.
My team and I are very capable of being competitive, but we needed to upgrade to a different engine to show that, said Slone. So, I sold my engine right after the NMCA race at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio in August, and bought the 959 cubic-inch engine from Pat Musi. It used to belong to Tommy Franklin.
The engine is built on a billet CN block and topped with Dart heads and a billet sheetmetal intake designed by Musi. Additional muscle will come from not one but five nitrous setups by Musi, and to help plant the massive amounts of power, Slone will rely on his previously-used M&M Transmission-built Turbo 400 lockup transmission paired with a new converter designed by Mark Micke of M&M Transmission.
The Michigan-based driver, who had been running carburetors, will move to fuel injection, and Musi will help design the tune. Additionally, Skinny Kid Race Cars will fabricate a new set of headers to run under the car rolling on Hoosier slicks.
Slone, who receives support from Mullins Auto Supply, LaFontaine Performance Center, Chevrolet Performance Parts, Hoosier Racing Tires and M&M Transmission, plans to kick off his run for the VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod championship at the 16th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 8-11, 2018 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida.
In addition to competing at all six NMCA events, he has circled on his calendar the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, Sept. 13-16, at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
