Sure, there’s no replacement for displacement, and bigger definitely is better. So, when Ford introduced its new 7.3-liter for the Super Duty truck line in 2020, racers immediately began contemplating the performance possibilities and the automotive aftermarket was ready with plenty of upgrades almost instantly. As a bonus the engine also shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern as Ford’s popular 4.6-, 5.0-, and 5.4-liter engines, which makes swaps even easier.
The large-displacement, naturally aspirated, pushrod V8 powerplant known as Ford’s Godzilla engine, was the first non-hybrid and non-EcoBoost introduction to the Blue Oval family in quite some time. Originally intended to be a workhorse, its cast iron block, pushrod configuration gives it massive low-end torque and extreme durability that ticked a lot of boxes for performance enthusiasts; in 2023, a smaller displacement 6.8-liter Godzilla later joined the family as a complement to the original.
These engines quickly built a following as a performance swap engine for a variety of projects, including drag-oriented builds. To foster this market, NMRA is hosting the inaugural Godzilla Invasion presented by Paul’s High Performance during the NMRA Ford Homecoming at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, from June 6-9. The centerpiece of this special celebration is the first drag-racing class dedicated to Godzilla-powered Ford.
For those looking to push Ford’s latest bullet to even greater levels, like those running in the Godzilla Invasion, an abundance of parts are now readily available and new gear is hitting the market all the time, so keep reading and learn about many of the parts that can turn your 7.3-liter V8 into a more powerful monster.

417 Motorsports Swap Oil Pan

Built to order by 417 Motorsports, these Ford 7.3-liter engine oil pans are perfect for swapped vehicles that require a low-profile rear sump oil pan. Measuring only 5.875 inches deep to provide significant gains in ground clearance over the OEM pan and designed around a Team Z K-member, each holds eight quarts of oil and includes new pickup and all hardware required for installation. MSRP: $1,210.00 •  (417) 865-1314

For those building a new Godzilla engine, or simply upgrading the internals on their existing engines, ARP offers its ARP ARP2000 rod bolts for Ford’s pushrod 7.3-liter. Centerless ground for increased concentricity, these fasteners are heat treated before thread rolling and machining to enhance strength and resist fatigue. The result is a minimum tensile strength of 220,000 psi. • (800) 826-3045
