E3 Spark Plugs, Coils, & Battery

E3 Spark Plugs continues to expand its product line from its innovative spark plugs to ignition coils and now lithium batteries. We took a look at some of the company’s products and installed them on a 2011 Mustang GT.
The Coyote-powered Mustang GT took the pony car’s performance to new heights in factory form, and the aftermarket multiplied the engine platform’s power-building capabilities. E3 Spark Plugs developed a replacement spark plug that features the company’s DiamondFIRE technology, and the design’s physical appearance is far different from most spark plugs on the market.
There’s no denying that the E3 spark plugs have a unique design, and it seems to perform well given the company’s success in everything from stock replacement to top-level motorsports competition.
While we utilized the company’s E3.74 OE replacement plug in this install, we also ordered a set of E3’s E3.112 racing spark plugs for a second application. E3 was one of the first companies to develop a boost-friendly spark plug for Coyote-powered Mustangs. It features a slightly reduced gap to prevent spark blowout under boost and the plug has been a success in supercharged and turbocharged Mustangs for years now.
Newer to the E3 product line is the company’s line of high-performance ignition coils. E3 claims that its ultra-high output Coyote coils offer more than double the energy output of a stock coil, and they feature stainless steel spark plug contact rings with ferrite lugs to suppress EMI/RFI noise and optimize resistance and inductance values. This is said to increase output at higher RPM levels.
E3 also employs high-temperature epoxy that resists shock and vibration and also provides improved thermal conductivity to extend the life of the coil. Knowing underhood temperatures soar these days, E3 also uses a 550-degree silicone compound for the spark plug boots.
Part number E3.619 fits 2011 to current model year 5.0-liter Coyote engines, and they installed without a hitch on our 20111 Mustang GT.
Finally, we also ordered one of E3’s newest products, that being one of the company’s new lightweight, lithium batteries. Part number E3.502 is E3’s SuperLite 1200 battery that offers 1,200 cold-cranking amps with a 24.8 amp/hour capacity. It’s particularly suited to race cars that do not run alternators, and it weighs in at a super svelte 6.9 pounds. We compared its weight to that of a stock Mustang battery and it came in over 20 pounds lighter. That’s a significant amount of weight that could be removed from the front end of your car.
E3’s SuperLite 1200 battery is said to charge quicker and last three times longer than traditional batteries, in addition to providing quicker starts. It also features several built-in safety features like over-charge and over-discharge protection, short-circuit protection, and excessive cranking protection. For street cars that have been converted into race cars, E3 offers optional bolt-on terminal lugs so your factory positive and negative cables will bolt right up.
