At first, it seemed like the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series at the 16th Annual NMCA QuickFuel Technology Bluegrass Nationals at Bowling Green, Kentucky's Beech Bend Raceway Park may not get run to completion due to the extreme amount of rain, but Sunday's weather was a sunny surprise and the race went off without a hitch.
Glenn Pushis pushed his 13 Camaro to a 10.246 at 128.77 mph run during Chevrolet Performance Stock qualifying, and his name was positioned at the top of the list as a result. Pushis's name was also published on the ladder for the final elimination run, but it was Jesse Wilson who pushed past Pushis when he ran 10.196 at 130.48 mph and claimed the win for Muncie, Indiana in his 14 Camaro.
In Wiseco BoostLine Connecting Rods Drag Radial, Anthony Manna and his 98 Camaro clicked off a 4.417 at 172.32 mph pass to not only take the number-one qualifying spot, but to also set the top speed for the class. The final elimination run was postponed until the 16th Annual Honeywell Garrett NMCA All-American Muscle Car Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, and will pit Manna against Andy Essary.
Jessie Coulter got his second number-one qualifier of the weekend when he also topped the list in Holley EFI Real Street with his 91 Camaro. Coulter continued on to the end of eliminations, but so did George Farkouh of Brooklyn, New York, in the American Racing Headers/Farks Supercars 10 Camaro, and it was Farkouh who finished first to get the class win when Coulter knocked the tires off.
David Esparza was king of qualifying in LME Street King when his 02 Camaro threw down a 10.762 at 125.49 mph pass. He excited eliminations before the finals, though, but both Kurt Anderson and Bryan Williams persisted. The final pair featured a seriously close drag race, but Eau Claire, Wisconsin's Anderson got the win when he ran practically dead-on to his 10.00 dial in with a 10.003 at 129.16 mph from the driver's seat of his eye-catching 69 Camaro.
Proform Rumble had a quick field of 11- and 12-second cars show up, but Regina Puckett was just 0.041-seconds over her index and the resulting 11.541 at 119.42 mph trip in her 10 Camaro landed her in first during qualifying. After all the eliminations round had been run, it was Nicholas Massengale of Petal, Mississippi, and Keith Vaughn who were paired in the finals. Massengale broke out with an 11.947-second run on his 12.00 dial in, but Vaughn gave up the win when he red lit and handed it over to Massengale.
