Armando Hernandez Heading to ARP Nitrous Pro Street

Posted By: Mike Galimi
With a passion for nitrous-packing combinations and nitrous purges, Armando Hernandez is heading for NMCA ARP Nitrous Pro Street in 2017. His sons, Justin and Ray, and daughter, Jessica, have been helping him convert his 1995 Mustang from a bracket car to a heads-up car in the family's shop, Mad Kuztumz, in Ft. Meyers, Florida. They fabricated for it a 25.5 chassis, and after smoothing out dents and dings and painting the car red, black and silver, they placed under its hood a 509 cubic-inch big-block Chevy engine which they built on a Dart Big M block with billet main caps and topped with Brodix BB-3 X-Tra heads and a Weiand cast intake with a modified cast tunnel ram. Two Pro Systems 1000 CFM carburetors help spoon fuel to the engine, and an ATI Superglide coupled with a PTC converter are under the all-steel four-link car which rolls on QA1 suspension and GoodYear 32X14 slicks wrapped around Billet Specialties beadlock wheels. With a new Nitrous Express system flowed by Kyle Buckmaster, the car has run 4.80s in the eighth-mile on a conservative tune, but the team plans to turn it up for quarter-mile competition. My dad, Armando, has been bracket-racing this car for a long time, but we always knew he wanted to heads-up race, said Justin Hernandez. We're excited that he's going to run Nitrous Pro Street. We like the rules, and we like nitrous, so it's a good fit. Team Hernandez is aware that the current class ET 'record is Joe Bucaro's 7.246, and they hope to get their car dialed in and headed in that direction at the 15th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 9-12 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida.
