15th Annual NMCA World Street FinalsThursday Coverage

Posted By: nmrasalesdept
The trucks and trailers were packed deep this morning while waiting to get into Summit Motorsports Park here in Norwalk, Ohio, and car have been rolling through the tech line all day. This weekend will crown the NMCA's champions and it also includes the third stop on the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series, which brings in the quickest and fastest LS- and LT-powered vehicles anywhere. The event also welcomes the Factory Appearing Stock Tire racers, the Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown presented by Diversified Products Marketing, the first-ever Mopar Drag Pak Showdown, and celebrity appearances by Discovery Channel's Street Outlaws Daddy Dave Comstock and Street Outlaws: New Orleans Kye Kelley. It's going to be a stellar weekend for race fans! 2 While he won't be driving his championship-winning Fox-bodied Mustang this weekend, two-time NMCA champion Eric Gustafson has put it in the capable hands of his tuner, Jason Lee of PTP Racing. As you may have noticed the dilutive 275 M/T Pro radials on the car, Lee and Gustafson's crew will field the car in Wiseco Performance products Street Outlaw this weekend. They also had to swap out the F3-136 ProCharger that they ran at the Super Bowl in Joliet while competing in Radial Wars for a smaller and class-legal F1X-12R unit. The entry into Street Outlaw is an interesting one; could they be blocking for fellow ProCharger racer Jarod Wenrick, who is looking to wrestle his championship points lead back from Jacky McCarty 3 You might have caught our recent web update on nmcadigital.com about Henry Lee stuffing his drivetrain into Jacky McCarty's Edelbrock Xtreme Street notchback. After the parachutes on his own car got under the wheelie bars at the top end and picked up the rear end of the car after the finish line in Joliet, Lee did all he could to save the car but still came in contact with the wall which led to flames and all sorts of other bad things. Luckily, he escaped relatively unharmed, but the Mustang needed major repair. In the meantime, his good friend and teammate Jacky McCarty loaned him a chassis so he could finish out the year in Xtreme Street. It's hard to believe looking at the photo that the engine between the rails was a burned up mess just a few weeks ago, but if you get a chance to check out any of the McCarty machines in the pits this weekend, you'll realize that all of their stuff is painted, powder coated, and/or polished to the maximum. 4 Noted NMCA West NA 10.5 racer Flying' Ryan Bell is back east once more to mix it up in Quick Lane of Downs Ford NA 10.5 competition. Currently, he's waiting on Dale Cubic of CFM Performance Carburetors which happens to be right down the road from Summit Motorsports park to bring back his Braswell fuel mixer so he can get set up for some test passes tomorrow. Bell's Corvette was down a bit on mph after some previous changes, so Cubic went back into the four-barrel to make some more changes. 5 Entering their first NMCA race this weekend are Don, Dan, and Matt Wuertz of Rochester, Minnesota. The three brothers have put together a '90 Mustang for NA 10.5 competition, and the car has been 8.60s with a different engine combination. For the NMCA's NA 10.5 class, they turned to noted NA racer Ben Mens for help with building the Mustang's 400ci SBF, and the bullet went to Book Racing where Bob Book put it on the engine dyno for tuning.
