It's Saturday morning and we are (almost) ready to get started with the action. TJ El Prepe Bailey is putting the finishing touches on the track, and is making good use of Kurt Johnson's Total Venue Concept's equipment to get the job done. Track prep Dream Team member Tyler Crossnoe is also on hand to lend his expertise. Drivers can expect an excellent racing surface, and we may even see some records fall in the next few hours if conditions hold up! The big news going around today is that Keith Berry may be joining forces with Keith Haney. If the deal goes through, Berry would be the pilot of choice for Haney's radial tire Camaro which he would run in Outlaw 10.5 trim. Haney will field his Pro Nitrous Camaro next season on the PDRA circuit, but there's a strong possibility that Berry, two time NMCA Mickey Thompson Radial Wars champion, could see seat time there as well. Looking to defend his titles, Berry will be gunning his twin turbo C5 Z06 Corvette during today's qualifying to stay ahead of the Radial Wars pack. Eau Claire, Wisconsin's Kurt Anderson and his 416ci 69 Camaro are a spectator favorite with the car's massive wheel stands, and this one sure was a doozy. Anderson, who is pulling double duty this weekend in both Magnafuel Open Comp and LME LSX Street King, went airborne during the first round of qualifying on Friday night. He stayed in it to ride out the wild ride, kept right on truckin down the track as if it was just a walk in the park, and wound up as the number one qualifier in Street King after the first session. Pick your poison! The car show is under way and we've got a huge collection of cars for you to enjoy, everything from classic Camaros to modern day Mustangs. Ford fans, get a load of this: come take a look at Mark Rinehart's awesome 1930 Ford 30A (near) and don't miss Nick White's supercharged 1934 Ford 3-window (far) in the car show this weekend! Bill Trovato and Scotty G. are waging a war, and at the center of that war is this pair of boxers. The guys have been trying to hide the underwear, which are of questionable origin, in each others cars for over two years. This weekend, the unmentionables already made an unexpected appearance on the tail end of Trovato's BTR Performance Camaro, which he's running in the Holley EFI class instead of his usual Edelbrock Xtreme Street stomping grounds. Trovato's been working hard lately to get the weight on the front end of the car down, and to do so, he's added a lighter weight aluminum block which saved one hundred pounds. Additionally, he's moved his radiator to the back of the car, a move he isn't necessarily thrilled about, but one he knew was necessary to reach his goal. Trovato is joined this weekend by his crew chief David Mitchell, and crew guys John Costello and Matt Trau. Former E3 Spark Plugs Top Sportsman racer James Noel has made the switch to Nitrous Pro Street with his beautiful orange and silver Mustang. Noel, who scored a runner up finish in Top Sportsman in Atlanta in 2015, went for some test sessions prior to this weekend's race, but the real deal all-out runs will be made during qualifying. The car is powered by a 438 ci Bennett Racing Engines small block Ford motor with a nitrous oxide system from Steve Johnson's Induction Solutions. Weld wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires sit out back, and the fabulous airbrush paint job was done by Danny Robledo at Kustom Airbursh in Easley, South Carolina. It's a family affair for Arkansas-based VP Racing Fuels Pro Mod driver Eddie Rogers. Joined by his wife, Joyce, and daughter Amanda Hoover who has been pulling crew chief duties for her dad for well over a decade, Rogers blown 69 Chevelle sports a Hammer supercharger bolted to its 521 ci Hemi. A new Snyder Motorsports ComSyncEFI system was recently installed, and Hoover's got the handle on dialing in the settings. Chassis work was done by Starting Line Motorsports, while Eddie's Transmission supplied the gearbox and a set of sticky Hoover tires provide ample traction. The family legacy extends to another generation, as Hoover's son, Jordan Grunwald, heads up the MX235 series when he's not helping out on the Pro Mod. A word of caution from Wiseco Street Outlaw racer Phil Corndog Smith's crew chief and right hand man, Billy Adams it's not smart to leave cans of brake parts cleaner and other aerosols in direct sunlight for extended periods of time. While Smith and Adams were conferring in their hauler, a small explosion outside got their attention in a hurry. A quick inspection revealed the culprit was this can of cleaner that popped its top in the extreme heat. Longtime NMCA racer and NA 10.5 competitor, John Langer of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is back in action this weekend, and he spent the last year and a half building the new Pontiac engine for his 1969 Firebird Trans Am replica. Bischoff Racing Engines created a beautiful billet tunnel ram intake reminiscent of the bathtub manifolds of the 60s. Despite fighting electrical and fuel issues, Langer us currently qualified 3rd in Quick Lane of Downs Ford NA 10.5. First take of the day for Bill Trovato was to swap out the transmission as the Holley EFI Real Street racer noticed something was a miss with it yesterday. Crew Chief David Mitchel had the auto box out early this morning, and the team has the 5th Gen Camaro wrapped up and ready for round two of qualifying. X275 racer turned Wiseco Street Outlaw competitor Alan Felts of Bowling Green, Kentucky, is working to get his white Fox body Mustang dialed in today with the help of his father Johnny Felts and crew man Heath Forshee. The car was built by Jesse Coulter, and the crew at Southern Speed Racing handled the wiring. Under the hood sits a 408 ci small block Ford with a 98mm Precision turbo proudly showcased front and center. A Proformance transmission matched with a ProTorque converter helps put the power to the ground, and a set of brand spankin new RC Components wheels add the finishing touch. When the hood blew off TJ Strange's small block-powered and RPM Transmission-equipped 92 Ford Ranger pick-up truck during Quick Lane Performance NA 10.5 qualifying yesterday, not only did the blast surprise the heck out of him, but the concussion gave him a bloody nose, even with his helmet visor in place. The incident happened when the hood pins failed to hold the hood in place, and the whole piece got launched into orbit. Strange was up until 3:00am making repairs and installing a new windshield to replace the one that was damaged during the blow.
