Warren Hopes Upgrades Unleash 10.00s at NMCA Season Opener

Posted By: Mike Galimi
While reigning NMCA Detroit TrueTrac Nostalgia Muscle Car champion Andy Warren has piloted Derek Putnam's 1970 Nova, Jason Rollins 1971 Nova and Chip Rollins 1982 Malibu wagon at various NMCA season openers, he'll be behind the wheel of his classic and quite-capable 1971 Caprice at this year's season opener, the 15th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 9-12, at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. Under the hood of the blue beauty is his faithful 434 cubic-inch Knieriem Racing Engines-built bullet topped with AFR 245cc heads, an Edelbrock intake and a Quick Fuel Black Diamond-series 1050 carburetor. Lucas Oil Products lubricants, additives and cleaners are on hand to help keep the powerplant running optimally, and a fresh Bilbrey Automotive & Transmission Turbo 350 will help put the power down. Warren recently replaced his chrome moly driveshaft with a FastShafts carbon fiber driveshaft to realize a reduction of 15 pounds of rotating weight, and replaced his headers with a set of triple-stepped headers custom-made by American Racing Headers to complement his new Flowmaster Outlaw II collector mufflers and header tethers. I'm hoping the exhaust and drivetrain upgrades will help me comfortably stay in the 10.00 index all year long, and be capable of dipping into the 9.80s with ease, said Warren, who has additional support from Ron Francis Wiring, XS Power Batteries, FueLab, Baskin Truck Sales, VP Racing Fuels, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, TRZ Motorsports, Menscer Motorsports and Edelbrock. Warren, who plans to run all six events on the 2017 NMCA schedule in his quest for his sixth class championship, will also take part in Muscle Car Mayhem at the season opener, which will see Detroit TrueTrac Nostalgia Muscle Car drivers compete against ATI Nostalgia Super Stock drivers. Additionally, he'll compete in NMRA Ford Muscle in his 2013 V6-powered Mustang at select events throughout the season. On the rare occasion he's not in the driver's seat, he'll serve as a crew member for Jeremy Lyons, who recently purchased a shortblock from Warren's brother, Edelbrock Xtreme Street'driver John Warren, for the Third Gen Camaro he recently purchased from Mitch Mika for ARP Nitrous Pro Street action. It will be a very busy year for us, said Warren.
