Walsh, Jr. Preparing to Wheel Corvette in Pro Mod Competition

Posted By: Mike Galimi
As a longtime and legendary driver, Don Walsh, Jr. has wheeled to wins in NMRA, NMCA, NHRA and other series in his Mustangs and Harry Hruska's Precision Turbo & Engine-backed Mustang and Camaro, but he'll soon set sail in the Corvette C7 that he recently purchased from Jose Gonzalez. The opportunity Harry Hruska gave me to drive the Precision cars was amazing, and as much as I enjoyed it, I need to devote more time to my family and my business, Walsh Motorsports, and I'll be able to do that with running a much more limited schedule with this car, said Walsh, Jr. I'm excited about finally getting a Jerry Bickel chassis. I've always wanted one and figured this would be a good one as Jose Gonzalez set a record in it for the quickest doorslammer in the world with a 5.40 and 259 mph. The chassis has been taken to Walsh Motorsports in Wixom, Michigan to be assembled with a new powerplant consisting of a Brad Anderson Enterprises-designed 521ci Hemi, which Walsh Motorsports originally assembled for Hruska's Precision Turbo & Engine-backed Camaro. It will be paired with Precision turbos. The combination will sip fuel via an Aeromotive fuel system, and an M&M Transmission-built Turbo 400 will plant the power. I'm excited that I'll also be working with ProLine on this project, said Walsh, Jr. We have raced against these guys for years and I think very highly of all of their accomplishments. Multi-time NMRA Pro 5.0 champion Walsh, Jr. has his sights set on testing the chassis, combination and various sets of tires by the end of 2017, and heading for competition, including NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod, in 2018. This will be the first time in several years that I've owned the car I'm driving, said Walsh, Jr., who will fly banners for Precision Turbo & Engine, Brad Anderson Enterprises, VP Racing Fuels, HPL Oil, ProLine Racing and Quality Powder Coating. It will be great to be doing it with my team, including, first and foremost, my wife, Ashley, and daughter, Kaylee, and Justin Haddon, Michael Begley, Chris Church and Chris Tumpkin. Without them, none of this would be possible. Photos courtesy of Don Walsh, Jr.
