Posted By: Mike Galimi

After an action-packed Saturday, the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center All-Star Nationals roars into its final day at Atlanta Dragway this weekend. Today the heads-up and index classes run through eliminations deciding who takes those coveted trips to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle. A special class will also crown a winner today as well when the top eight finishers in the Dodge // Mopar HEMI Shootout square off in the Arrington Performance HEMI Quick 8 presented by Redline Oil.

[gallery size="large" columns="2" ids="17484,17485"] After rain shortened the program last night, the action kicks off early at the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center All-Star Nationals as the events champions are crowned in eliminations today. The Dodge // Mopar HEMI Shootout wrapped up yesterday, with Haden Banks as the overall winner with a 9.91 average, and Pete Mansolillo as the runner-up with a 10.35 average. Other winners included Richard Stimson in the 10-second category, William Field in the 11-second category, Jeff Smith in the 12-second category and Alan Scanlan in the 13-second category. Rounding things out were Joe Giordano, who ran to the 14-second win and Chris Hall, who ran to the 15-second win. The Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge is another category that came to an exciting conclusion yesterday, with Terry Faust taking the overall win with a 9.70 average, and Don Dixon taking the runner-up finish with a 9.72 average. Other winners included Jeff Bradley in the 10-second category, Harv Owen in the 11-second category, Tom Calabrese in the 12-second category and Angel Gawden in the 13-second category. Don Carter captured the win in the 15-second category.

There is a strong turnout in the car show this weekend at the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center All-Star Nationals. There is a wide variety of performance machines on the field, including the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Terry Byers of Maysville, Georgia. It's a beautiful blue machine, but what more needs to be said when it has a massive BDS blower fed by twin Demon carburetors towering over the hood.

Opting to stick with the larger blower pulley, Jesse Alexandra was on hand give his NHRA combo a trial by fire in Holley EFI Factory Super Cars. His team was dialing in the tune and making suspension adjustments to hasten the car's performance.

Making the trip up from Florida, Angel Gaulden ran three back-to back passes in Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge yesterday, which was enough to earn victory in the 13-second class with a 13.13 average. For her troubles she earned a trip to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle in her 2014 Camaro.

Not only does VP Racing Madditives sponsor the NMRA Street Outlaw class and VP Racing Lubricants sponsor the NMCA Xtreme Pro Mod class, but the company is also on hand at the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center All-Star Nationals supplying racers with VP Racing Fuels to feed their machines.

Shane Pearson didn't win a category in the Dodge // Mopar HEMI Shootout yesterday, but he did manage a 12.58-second average in his 2019 Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320. The totally stock machine has over 16,000 miles on the odometer, and he drives it to every event he competes in. He sold a couple of other projects to purchase his 'dream car, which is one just three in Indigo Blue with his options of choice. Pearson really enjoys racing with the NMCA because of the camaraderie with his fellow racers.

The two-car NMCA VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod team of David Monday and Tom Blincoe have both been testing a lot lately. The tuners the legendary Pro Mod/Alcohol Funny Car tuner Howard Moon on Monday's and PTP Racing's Patrick Barnhill on Blincoe's are nitpicking to find a few fractions where they can. The entire David Monday Race Cars crew has been working hard this weekend, with Monday himself overseeing the chassis on the two entries bearing his shop's name. Monday qualified seventh with Blincoe in eighth, and Monday moved on after the first round of eliminations yesterday while Blincoe did not. Going in to the final qualifying session, Scott Brown led the NMCA Chevrolet Performance Stock field with his 10.306 at 126.87 mph trip but ultimately slipped into second when the standings were finalized. Brown's got his old crew chief, Doug Thompson, back with him this weekend and it's made a world of difference for his 13 COPO Camaro as has an electrical issue fix by Turn Key Automotive. Brown's son, Aaron, is also helping out, and the guys are all having a blast getting back to racing after being shut down from Covid-19 for so long. Cars cruised on the street before the strip for TorqStorm Superchargers True Street, where Mark Scordato earned the overall win with an 9.46 average in his GTO, and Dan Nusbaum nailed the runner-up finish with an 9.92 average. Alex Corella was the 10-second winner, Ben Bramlett was the 11-second winner, Mike Baker was the 12-second winner, Dylan Derby was the 13-second winner, Kay Ward was the 14-second winner and Allen Smith took the 15-second win. Corky Bumpus led the NMCA Quick Fuel Technology Nostalgia Super Stock qualifying field going nearly dead-on his dial with an 11.001-second ET. He starts eliminations this morning with a bye run advantage and his goal with his Corky's Muscle Car Performance 67 Barracuda is to simply beat all the other guys, of course, and has an excellent shot at doing so given that his car is as consistent as a clock. Just 0.003-seconds off his goal of a 9.50 run during yesterday's qualifying, Doug Duell wrapped things up in the number two spot. He's got a set of Mickey Thompson drag radials on his Drag n Wag n Holley-carbureted 64 Fury this weekend which is a departure from his usual slicks and he's loving how consistent the new rubber is. With only about a dozen passes on his freshly-built Jerry Bickel 68 Camaro, Robert Abbott put in an impressive show during NMCA VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod qualifying to earn the number-two spot in an incredibly competitive field with his 3.747 at 203.80mph blast. He's still in the game going in to the second round of eliminations, and has his Wyo Motorsports blown Hemi engine with Ty-Drive converter drive all tuned up and ready to rock thanks to the man himself, King Tutt Todd Tutterow. Magna Fuel Open Comp and Coan Engineering Stock/Super Stock Combo champion Ricky Pennington had a rough go of it in the final round of qualifying when the Mustang he was driving failed to fire in the staging lanes. Luckily, he and his father Rick were able to pinpoint the issue, as they found that the alternator harness had pulled out of the plug on the alternator, and they were making some quick repairs for eliminations today. Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle driver Tim Boggs has had his 1967 Chevy II for sale since the end of last season, but he is rethinking selling it now that he was able to purchase a 283ci, NHRA record-holding powerplant that he and a friend used to race with. We caught up with Xtreme Street racer Billy Copeland as we noticed a new door on his big-block Demon. Yesterday, the passenger door had left the car during a qualifying run, and Copeland had someone bring the car's original steels door to the track and they bolted it back up, crank window and all. Unfortunately, when the fiberglass door flew off, it dented the rear quarter, so there will be quite a bit of paintwork in the Demon's future. Yesterday, we had reported that we had two father-and-son teams competing in Proform Parts Rumble, which is one of several classes in the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series that runs concurrently with NMCA events. As it turns out, we have three pairs. Tim and David Rickey, Dewayne and Nicholas Massengale, and Thomas and Brandon Dabbs. Check out an upcoming issue of Fastest Street Car magazine for a full photo spread and more information about these family-driven teams.

Though he didn't win a category on Saturday, Wade Adkinson graduated from the Dodge // Mopar HEMI Shootout to today's Arrington Performance HEMI Quick 8 presented by Red Line Oil on the merit of his 10.92 average. Today he squared off against another regular in this class, Pete Mansolillo. Atkinson came out on top in the first round battle of Demons cutting a better light, and he is definitely living up to his mission of driving the car the way it is intended to be driven.

We caught up with reigning MagnaFuel Products Inc. Open Comp champion Cameron Bowles and his girlfriend, Carrington Pendley, as they were checking out cars in the pit area today at the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. Bowles, who qualified in the eleventh spot with an .021 reaction time, got past the first round of eliminations with a better reaction time than his opponent and a 9.71 after lifting to avoid breaking-out. Now he's preparing for the second round of eliminations in his grandfather Don Bowles famous Maverick, Little Coal Digger VII. Dad (Donnie Bowes) and Susan (Roush McClenaghan) aren't here this weekend, so we're going to try to do this without them, said Bowles. ELIMINATIONS are underway. We'll post a race wrap after all of the winners have visited the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle, but for results as we receive them today, click HERE
