Thursday Coverage Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals Presented by Force Engineering

Posted By: Event Coverage Team
It should be no surprise that the Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals Presented by Force Engineering was going to be a different one. The extravanganza was originally scheduled to go down at Summit Motorsports Park (Norwalk, OH) but when they decided to remain closed for the 2020 season, NMRA and NMCA officials shifted the event over to the prestigious US 131 Motorsports Park (Martin, MI). The All-American Nationals was super special this year because it is hosting the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals on top of the Chevrolet Performance COPO Camaro Shootout Presented by COPO Parts Direct and the Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown Presented by Watson Racing and everything else that makes the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals one of the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. The pits are filled nearly to the end of the facility as well over 500 cars registered as of Thursday. Test and Tune is scheduled for today with qualifying kicking off tomorrow morning. Follow along on the website and social media to keep up with the action. With help from Jackie Sloan and many others the team is tuning up the engine to make a run at the 4.30-4.40 range this weekend. The Nova is powered by a 632ci engine with Dart 18-degree cylinder heads with a sheetmetal intake that has been plumbed with a Speedtech direct port nitrous system. With several X275 events being canceled the NMCA event is hosting a point's race as the cars cross over into Mickey Thompson/VP Racing Maddatives Street Outlaw. Goss has been pushing hard into the 4.20s and it is his first NMCA event of 2020. With Bruce Maichle of HHP Racing and Wade Hopkins of Southern Speed making the tuning calls, Goss is looking to spoil the NMCA championship points chase and earn some bonus points for his X275 league. Baker Engineering"Super Dave" Adkins hauled his 1970.5 Camaro to US 131 Motorsports Park as he eyes up his first 200 mph blast in VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod category. Right now the car holds all the major LS-based records with a best 1/8-mile run of 3.75 (on 315 radials), 199.97 mph top speed. Moving to the long track he has run a best of 5.97 at 243 mph. Adkins said this is the first time they are running slicks in a Pro Modified category and are looking forward to letting the Garrett GTX turbochargers loose in NMCA competition. Holley EFI NMCA Ron Rhodes"I am an older guy who isn't always so quick to embrace technology, but I wish I added fuel injection a long time ago," said Ron Rhodes, legendary X275 racer. New for 2020 is a Holley EFI Dominator on top of the massive small-block Chevy engine combination. Rhodes credits help from Mike Thompson as well as some input from Tony Bischoff of BES Racing for the quick and easy conversion. Like Goss, the recently canceled Yellow Bullet Nationals opened up Rhodes' schedule to make the trip to Michigan. It has been nearly 15 years since he raced in NMCA and he is excited to join the Mickey Thompson/VP Racing Madditives Street Outlaw category this weekend. ProCharger NMCADerek Ward had a scary top-end incident during his first time run of the weekend when a fuel line came off. The high-volume mechanical fuel pump sprayed an excessive amount of fuel over the hot engine causing it to ignite. The fire went out quickly and the team was forced to rewire several parts of the EFI system. Ward did manage to run a 3.83 at around 200 mph before the incident, showing he will be quite competitive in the VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod category this weekend. The car relies on a Brad Anderson HEMI engine with a ProCharger F-3X supercharger, which is backed by a Liberty transmission.
