It's hard to believe, but this weekend marks the end of the 2019 NMCA Drag Racing season. Championships are still up for grabs in many of the classes and the great weather forecast for this weekend here at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis should provide the setting for some show-stopping performances. Just a short while ago, RacePagesDigital.com broke the news that Billy Glidden was bringing his legendary black Fox-body Mustang out of retirement and he and his wife Shannon have the 1989 Mustang GT ready for battle in the ARP Nitrous Pro Street class. It'll be powered by a vintage 406ci Windsor engine and Speedtech nitrous system, with Glidden shifting the gears of his Liberty transmission. There's plenty of old tech in the car, but also some new updates, as some front suspension adjustments got the car hooking good once more and a myriad of weight-reduction changes have lightened the car a bit it still has steel front fenders, engine aprons and front frame rails. Tom Ullery (middle left) of Toms River, New Jersey, and his wife Eva (far left) have had this 1991 Mustang under construction for some time. He was looking to go quicker than the 11-second ETs he had logged before, and NA 10.5 racer Rick Riccardi (middle right) has been putting the machine together for him and recently logged the Mustang's first quarter-mile laps since Riccardi finished building the 412ci engine. With around 790 horsepower on tap, the Fox-Body has gone low 9s with Riccardi behind the wheel, and Ullery is getting acquainted with the car at this event, while completing his competition license requirements as well. Riccardi told us it should be capable of running in the 8s with the wick turned up, and Ullery plans to run the 2020 NMCA season in the MagnaFuel Open Comp category. This weekend marks the final race of the 2019 season for the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series, and new to that is local Matthew Pogue. He has equipped his 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass with a 6.0-liter-based engine combination built by Mike Duke Racing, and plans to run it just on motor this weekend in in the Chevrolet Street Car Challenge class. Pogue plans to put a nitrous progressive controller on the car later on, but he'll be doubling up on his seat time this weekend as he also intends on signing up for the Proform Rumble class as well. There were some body modifications going on in the pit spot of FST Carburetors NA 10.5 racer Dwight Ausmus, as he is looking to take advantage of some technical rules regarding what part of the car catches the timing beams. Jon Pickering received his Ford Maverick as an 80th birthday gift from his son, and while he was able to get some time in it earlier this year, he's yet to really give it ago. But that changes this weekend and the purple dream, father-and-son team will compete in the bracket and MagnaFuel Open Comp classes.
