Hutnick Irons Out Issues in time for Super Bowl

Posted By: Mike Galimi
Immediately after earning the 2015 NMCA Edelbrock Xtreme Street championship, David Hutnick set his sights on backing it up in 2016. He showed that by driving his Straightline Performance-built 02 Camaro to a 7.68 on his way to the win at the season-opening 14th Annual Ross Racing Pistons NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida in March, but was uncharacteristically off-pace at the races that followed in Georgia, Kentucky and Indiana. But he and his program are positioned for a complete turnaround, as he and crew members Kevin Stevens and Nick McGrath of Straightline Performance have gone over his combination with a fine-tooth comb and uncovered reasons why his car featuring a BTR-built big-block Chevy, Edelbrock nitrous system, CFM carburetor, Proformance Racing Transmissions-built Powerglide and PTC converter wasn't getting from A to B as timely as it had been. Hutnick 2 We were looking at a hundred different things to try to figure out what was wrong, and we were comparing time-slips to determine where we were losing ET, and correlating it with our saved data, said Hutnick, who relies on a Race Pak data acquisition system. After a lot of effort, especially on Kevin's part, we finally found some problems with our fuel delivery and straightened them out, and we finally found the right converter for our combination. Now, the car which has been rolling on Mickey Thompson 275 drag radials rather than slicks this season, has a date with McGrath at Straightline Performance, where it will go on the chassis dyno and be dialed in for the 11th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, July 28-31, 2016 at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. I have every intention of winning the race in Joliet, said Hutnick, who has been as quick and fast as 7.65 and 180 mph, and is known for accomplishing that which he sets out to accomplish. Hutnick 3
