Eliminations are under way on this final day of the 16th Annual SDPC Raceshop NMCA World Street Finals featuring the 11th Annual Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. The competition will be fierce, as season championships are on the line. Among all of the drivers to watch are those who set the pace in qualifying, including Jason Hamstra with a 3.83 in VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod, Marty Stinnett with a 3.88 in Mickey Thompson Radial Wars, Robbie Blankenship with a 7.95 in Boninfante Racnig NA 10.5, Rich Bruder with a 4.39 in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw and Jesse Wilson, with a 10.25 in Chevrolet Performance Stock presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center. The energy throughout Lucas Oil Raceway is electrifying as all of the action of this weekend's event is to reach the boiling point today. ATI Performance Nostalgia Super Stock drivers will have first crack at the professionally prepped track at 8:45 a.m.
While Becki Belcher had been driving her 2008 Saleen Mustang in NMRA Roush Performance Super Stang, she and her fiancee, Joe Cram, are preparing a 2010 Mustang for an NMRA and NMCA category to be determined. Meanwhile, she's been behind the wheel of Lloyd Mikeska's 2006 Mustang for a full season of NMRA Exedy Racing Clutch Mod Muscle competition, and has collected a batch of timeslips reflecting 12-second elapsed-times, and this weekend, she has entered MagnaFuel Open Comp in the car powered by a supercharged 4.6 engine. She recorded an .012 reaction time to qualify in the twenty-second spot, and is ready for today's first round of eliminations. From here, she'll head to the 19th Annual Nitto NMRA All-Ford World Finals, Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at Beech Bend Raceway in Kentucky to compete in the car for the last time this season before turning it back over to Mikeska, who will drive it home to Texas.
While Tommy DeLago is working as crew chief for Top Fuel Funny Car driver Alexis DeJoria at the NHRA race in Pennsylvania and wasn't available to run his 1967 Nova in Boninfante Racing NA 10.5 this weekend, he invited his good friend Frank Cervelli to drive the car in the category, and by all accounts, Cervelli is holding his own. He drove to a 7.95 to qualify in the second spot in the car with a 405ci small-block Chevy built by Ian Landies of Mid-South Racing Engines, and is ready to roll into today's first round of eliminations.
Edelbrock Xtreme Street racer Henry Lee bolted on a big 85mm turbocharger or this weekend and entered VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw competition with teammate Jack McCarty. Unfortunately, the final round of qualifying determined that the two would have to face each other first round. "We were hoping Henry would get [Charlie] Cooper first round and could possibly take him out so we could advance with Jacky's car, but it didn't work out that way. It's part of racing," said McCarty and Lee's tuner Josh Lyndsey.
Jeff Rudolf has had a rather calamitous year competing in ARP Nitrous Pro Street, but by this weekend, he was running number two in the championship points chase. Points leader Don Baskin lost first round, but Rudolf's sleigh encountered problems in the first round and could not advance, solidifying Baskin's Championship.
Wiseco Boostline Connecting Rods Drag Radial racer Andy Essary was catching a few minutes of relaxation before the first round today, noting he was up all night whether it was a party or problems with the car, we're not sure. Essary faces Brian Black in a first-round battle of F-body Firebirds.
ARP Nitrous Pro Street driver Randy Dolensek has plenty of power with his nitrous-enhanced and Mike Duke-built 598ci Ford engine, but lately, he's been struggling to put it all down at the hit in his 1969 Cyclone featuring a 4-link by Blitzkrieg Motorsports. He's not exactly sure what has gone amiss, but he managed a 7.70 to qualify in the sixth spot, made a change to his shock settings and is awaiting today's first round of eliminations.
Street Outlaw racer Charlie Cooper currently sits number one in NMCA championship points, and number two in NMRA Street Outlaw Points. The position is reversed for Manny Buginga, and less than 50 points separate them going into eliminations.
