Summers Set to Debut Stunning 2016 Camaro

Posted By: Mike Galimi
Steve Summers is no stranger to setting records and sailing to wins in his 70 1/2 Bicklel-built Camaro powered by a Jasiek Racing 522 cubic-inch engine and 88mm Garrett turbos, and while the car delivered the popular and personable driver to a 3.78 in the eighth-mile and a 5.65 in the quarter-mile, he's set to move to a 2016 bodied Bickel-built Camaro. It's a lightweight car that's very versatile and will fit Pro Mod classes in various series, said Summers, the 2014 NMCA Pro Mod champion who's been bringing the heat in NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod as well as PDRA Pro Boost. It seems that weight was always an issue at whichever Pro Mod race I was at, and I wanted to have a car that would always fit the rules. For power, he teamed up with his longtime engine builder Jeff Jasiek, to design and build an all-billet 522 cubic-inch CFE-headed Wedge engine topped with a billet aluminum CFE intake. It's fronted by 98mm Garrett turbos for NMCA competition and 94m turbos for PDRA competition. Summers 2 A Liberty's Extreme T three-speed transmission and PTC converter will handle the transferring of the power to the pavement, and Patrick Barnhill and Jason Lee of PTP Racing, along with Summers, will use a Haltech Elite standalone engine management system to design the tune. Every time I've raced my 70 1/2 Camaro this year, I've tested components for the new Camaro so that I would have the most solid foundation possible, said Summers, whose wife, Jerilynn, helps with everything from prepping the car in the pit area to lining it up on the starting line. So, I feel confident about what we have here. Summers, who's not yet sure what he'll do with his 70 1/2 Camaro, has been putting in long hours to finish the new car, and hopes to make the 15th Annual NMCA World Street Finals featuring the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series, Aug. 25-28, 2016 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, though he admits there's a chance it might not be ready by then. To know Summers, however, is to know that it will be worth the wait. I want to run up front, set records and win races, said Summers, who knows exactly what it takes to do that. Summers 1
