The Friday running of the 16th Annual SDPC Raceshop NMCA World Street Finals featuring the 11th Annual Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout at Lucas Oil Raceway was every bit as exciting as expected, with drivers laying down exceptional elapsed-times in the first qualifying session despite high heat and humidity. Among those setting the pace in their categories were Jason Hamstra, who hauled to a 3.83 in VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod, DeWayne Mills, who motored to a 3.91 in Mickey Thompson Radial Wars, Rich Bruder, who blasted to a 4.39 in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw, Jessie Coulter, who collected a 4.76 in Edelbrock Xtreme Street, Joe Bucaro who blasted to a 7.33 in Nitrous Pro Street and Jesse Wilson, who wheeled to a 10.26 in Chevrolet Performance Stock presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center. For qualifying results in all categories, please click HERE As a special feature of this event, the NMCA and the Victory Performance Nostalgia Super Stock series joined to form the Nostalgia Super Stock All-Stars race presented by FueLab. It was contested Friday night, and Jeff Blichensderfer (pictured above) took the win over the NMCA's DW Hopkins by driving his Dart to an 11.00 on his 11.00 index while Hopkins hot-shoed his Thunderbolt to a 9.51 on his 9.50 index.

The defending champion in ARP Nitrous Pro Street, Joe Bucaro, kicked the rods out of his Billet Specialties Mustang at the last NMCA race in Norwalk, Ohio. Facing the prospect of missing the final race of the season, Bucaro got a call a short while later from fellow NPS racer Don Baskin, who offered Bucaro a drive behind the wheel of his Oldsmobile Cutlass, which recently received a new BES small-block. Baskin told us of his plan to run that car next season, instead of his 2010 Camaro, and with Bucaro currently sitting at number one on the qualifying sheet with a 7.33, the car is showing strong prospects for being the class leader now and next year. 
ARP Nitrous Pro Street driver Josh Ritli has been coaxing more and more power from the nitrous-gulping 525 cubic-inch big-block Chevy engine which has been under the hood of his 1969 Camaro for just 17 passes, and as a result, he ripped off a personal best of 7.43 during in last night's first round of qualifying. Now, he's hoping to dip into the 7.30s, and helping him every step of the way is his son, Kyle, who plans to be in the driver's seat of the car within a few years. 
New to Edelbrock Xtreme Street is Craig Watson of Columbia, Kentucky. Watson pilots a 73 Chevy Nova that he has owned since 1990, and currently campaigns it in a power-limited class at his local track. The Nova packs a 437ci small-block Chevy with 12-degree Pro Action cylinder heads and a single stage of Induction Solutions nitrous oxide injection. It's been a best of 5.23 at 131 in the eighth-mile, but plans to add a lot more nitrous this weekend. Watson credits his AEM datalogger for providing pertinent information about his runs, and his Menscer Motorsports shocks for being able to finally put the power down without pulling a wheelie all of the time. 
Yes, that is a Mopar intake bolted to a small-block Chevrolet. Craig Watson scored a deal on the cylinder heads and an intake manifold with adaptors that should prove to be a capable combination. 
Debuting his new shop car, David Monday of Louisville, Tennessee, is driving a supercharged 63 Split Window Corvette in VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod this weekend. The David Monday Race Cars chassis was completed this year and features a Brad Anderson blown Hemi with a Chuck Ford supercharger, which is tuned by Rick Hickman. Monday told us that his shop was recently visited by Discovery Channel, which was covering the rebuild of JJ Da Boss Nova as it was involved in a traffic accident after leaving the track several weeks ago. Monday is currently qualified 10th with a 4.07 at 186 mph. 
Billy and Shannon Glidden have been putting laps on their new Pro Mod Camaro that they picked up with help from Ray Skillman. We saw the pair debut the car at the NMCA All-American Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, a few weeks ago, and they are currently qualified in 9th here at Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indy with a 4.02 at 189 mph.

He's competing once again in Indy with his '91 Firebird, which benefits from an LS engine swap and a Precision turbocharger, and clicked off a low-8-second run yesterday during the True Street test session. May faces some stiff competition this weekend in the form of past True Street winner, Chris Bishir, and his LS-swapped and turbocharged S10 pickup truck, which is also capable of running low-8-second passes with regularity. 
As the current points leader in Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series BoostLine Connecting Rods Drag Radial, Anthony Manna the Kone Killa came to this race looking to hold onto that standing and back up his 2016 class championship, and he wasn't going to let a fuel pump failure on his test pass stop him from going after it. He and his crew made the trip to nearby Waterman Racing to have it repaired in time for yesterday's first round of qualifying, where he ran to a 4.49 to set the pace in his Camaro powered by an AES-built 427ci LSX engine fronted by Precision turbos. 
While Chevrolet Performance Stock presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center driver Kevin Lumsden drove to six final rounds, three wins and a second place finish in points last year, he's fighting some issues this year which have prevented him from going where he wants to go in his 1999 Camaro with a DR525 LS3 engine and an RPM Transmissions-built Turbo 400. "I've had some trouble with a couple different things, including shocks," said Lumsden, who's currently working on his cold air box in an attempt to improve air flow going into the engine."I had a baseline on the shocks last year, but tried to tighten them up because I had been going into wheelies, but that really changed things and I'm trying to get back to where I was." 
Reigning LME Street King champion Taylor Lumsden, son of Chevrolet Performance Stock presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center driver Kevin Lumsden, comes to this final race of the season in the third position in points, and is intent on moving up. He'll have his work cut out for him as his 2001 Firebird featuring a 427ci LS7 engine and Turbo 350 transmission wants to run a little slower than his 10.00 index with the heat and humidity, but he has proven he knows that there's more than one way to win. 
Making his NMCA and LME Street King debut this weekend is Jesse Alexandra, who's behind the wheel of the 2017 COPO Camaro he took ownership of in March. While he had run a series of low 9-second passes in testing before this event, he has jumped to high-8s this weekend in the car with a supercharged 350ci engine under the hood. "The track is awesome, and I was happy to get into the 8s," said Alexandra. "But, I still have a long way to go. This is all new to me, and the guys in Factory Super Car have been really helpful. I've been watching and learning from them." 
This weekend marks the second outing for Colton Coffey and his 1971 Camaro Z28, and he'll be competing in Gear Vendors True Street. With help from Nick Taylor, Cody Richardson, and Dylan Adley, Coffey and his wife are making some progress with the 580ci Warrior Racing big-block Chevy engine and NOS Big Shot nitrous system. The Coffey Auto Enhancement proprietor from Flat Rock, Indiana, has runs some 10s in testing, but expects to see mid 5s to the eighth with the nitrous on. 
Discovery Channel's Street Outlaws star Derek Travis Is here with his Silver Unit 1986 Camaro and his scissors, which we caught in action on the manufacturer's midway as he performed some on-the-spot "tailoring" for some fans. Travis is making hits today on track as well as signing autographs and selling apparel. 
There were some very nice cars in the Mothers Car Show today, including this survivor 1969 Z28. We're ready to bolt on some slicks and make some hits on the track with this piece, but it might not survive for much longer in that case. 
Competing this season in Magnafuel Open Comp as well as FSC Stock/Super Stock Combo, Ricky Pennington got a gift from his buddy at Cool Shirt Systems and says it greatly helps on hot weekends like this. Sitting in the lanes can be tough, and when you're campaigning two cars, even more so, but the shirt keeps Pennington nice and cool they're not just for road racers anymore! 
VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw racer Tommy Olsen noticed his 1998 Camaro laid over on the 1-2 shift during his most recent qualifying pass, and after finding some damaged spark plugs, decided to pull the cylinder head. Thankfully the head and piston was in good shape still and Olsen, with help from his team and fellow racer Anthony Manna, was planning on putting in some new piston rings and working on the tuneup to ensure it doesn't get too hot again. T&T Racing Engines built the 582ci big-block Chevy, and a single fogger kit adds the extra power. Olsen is currently qualified 9th with a 4.63 performance.
