For the first time, the Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals series launched its season at Orlando Speed World. As the weekend approached, however, the forecast for the weekend wasn't kind. A chance of rain, no matter how significant, can keep show cars tucked safely in their garages, but those that turned out in Orlando were varied and striking.

A venue change also offered a fresh location for the car show. With the cars lined up along the fence, owners and spectators alike could soak up the racing action on the 1,320 while enjoying the varied display of muscle cars and trucks in the show. It makes for a great setting to enjoy much of what the event has to offer in one spot.

Impressively, the contestants varied from Saturday to Sunday, when a greater chance of rain was predicted. In the end, there was minor rain overnight on Saturday, but the event zoomed to completion despite the flawed forecast. In the end, most of the attendees drove away with awards and built a foundation for an even better show next year.

Best of Show

Just two weeks prior, during the RYNO Classifieds NMRA Spring Break Shootout Presented by Nitto Tire, Gary Schick cleaned up with his 1970 Mustang Mach 1. He did the same during the NMCA opener, where his pristine machine not only nabbed Best Paint & Body honors but drove away with another Best of Show Award as well.

Not only is Chris Sperry's 1969 Camaro stunning on the outside, but the meticulous restomod also features custom touches throughout. However, it was what was underhood that counted at Orlando Speed World. Thanks in part to its detailed engine and custom induction, his ride earned Best Engine honors.

A more modern Camaro attracted attention for a different reason during the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Holbrook Racing Engines. Themed after the snarky superhero Deadpool, Cedrie Davis' 2012 Camaro sports a sword shift handle and numerous other nods to the character. The total package flexed its muscle to take home the Best Interior Award in Orlando.

There are few vehicles more iconic than a 1978 Trans Am with that flaming bird on the hood. Made famous in the Smokey and the Bandit movies, these cars are still attention-grabbers, particularly when adorned in black and gold. Ryan Heldreth expands on that legend with a modern LT4 under the hood. It boosted to Best Late Model at the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Holbrook Racing Engines.

Looking ever bit the period-correct street machine, Chris Copresti 1969 Mercury Comet could have been at home rumbling down Woodward Avenue or competing in an NMCA drag racing class. On the show field it not only earned Best Ford of Show, but it also rumbled away with the Best Pro Street Race Car award at Orlando Speed World.

It's not every day that you see a clean AMC Javelin, but that speaks to the variety on the NMCA show field in Orlando. Tom Lodge's tastefully modified example took home Best Chrysler of Show honors.

The modern Mopars turned out in droves on the drag strip in the Dodge // Mopar HEMI Shootout on the drag strip, but thanks to Kevin Smith, they represented on the show field as well. His 2022 Dodge Challenger took home the Best Chrysler Muscle Award.
