Rickey Drives to Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series Proform Rumble Championship

Posted By: Mike Galimi
Ever since he earned a championship in NMCA EFI Rumble in 2013, David Rickey has been raring to earn another one. He proved that by piloting his Camaro powered by a 346 cubic-inch LS1 engine to an 11.05 on an 11.00 index against Tom Calabrese to take a trip to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle at the 10th Annual NMCA/NMRA All-Star Nationals in April at Atlanta Dragway. After that, the Ohio-based driver put an 11.26 on an 11.25 index on the board to qualify in the third spot, and made it to the semifinal before breaking out with an 11.23 against Keith Vaughn at the 17th Annual Quick Fuel Technology Bluegrass Nationals in May at Beech Bend Raceway in Kentucky. He led qualifying again with an 11.00 on an 11.00 index and went on to an 11.29 to runner-up against Kevin Rowand at the 13th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing in July at Route 66 Raceway in Illinois. With that, Rickey had rounded up the 2018 Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series Proform Rumble championship. Coming into this season, I committed to making all the races and decided to run Open Comp at all the races to give myself the most track time possible, said Rickey. It really paid off and it feels great to achieve my goals. The highlight of the season was starting the season with a win at Atlanta. It was very rewarding to come away with the victory and start the season with the points lead. I want to thank my wife, Jessica, who supports me at the track, holds down the fort when I'm gone and puts up with me talking about racing for hours on end. I also have to thank my dad, Tim, who has taught me almost everything I know about cars and racing, my mom, Susan, who has always been supportive of my racing and my two boys, Chase and Lucas. They give me a lot of motivation. (Please watch for stories on all champions to be posted on the website and in Fastest Street Car in the days to come)
