Rich Nye Coming to NMCA Quick Lane at Downs Ford NA 10.5

Posted By: Mike Galimi
After spending some time kicking up dirt in a Sprint car, Rich Nye moved to a Fox body Mustang for the Pro Stick Racing series, where the motto is Real Cars Have a Clutch." Now, he's making a move to NMCA Quick Lane at Downs Ford NA 10.5, beginning with the 14th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 10-13, at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. His Kuntz and Company-built 434 cubic-inch small-block Ford wears Edelbrock Glidden Victor II heads and an Edelbrock intake, and a dry-sump oiling system keeps everything in working order. Fuel moves through a CFM Performance Carburetors carb. Helping to put the power to the pavement is a GF2000 by G-Force Transmissions, a company owned by reigning NMCA Quick Lane at Downs Ford NA 10.5 champion Leonard Long, who encouraged Nye to join the class. While Nye had been running 5:14 gearing and Mickey Thompson 33X10.5W slicks, he's moving to 4:71 gearing and 29.5X10.5 Mickey Thompson slicks, and to be in accordance with class rules, he'll add 104 pounds to his four-link car to bring it to 2872 pounds. Gary Hammaker of Hammaker Enterprises will help lay the tune, and Frank Edwards is on board as crew chief. While Nye is used to laying down fast times, having recorded a best of 8.18 and 167 mph, this will mark his first foray into heads-up racing. Rich Nye 2 This is a different kind of racing than I'm used to and there will be a little bit of a learning curve, but the competitive nature of it is the same as what I'm used to, and it will be fun, said Nye, who lives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and owns Keystone Mechanical Insulation. I'll see how I do, and then decide if I need to make changes to the car for next year.
