For the first time in many years, the Red Line Oil Muscle Car Nationals series returned to historic Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky, from May 31 through June 2. Unfortunately, Saturday saw wet weather all day, which put a damper on the showing and shining. A dedicated bunch stuck it out and collected awards, but it wasn’t as much fun as it should have been.

That said, the sun burned brightly on Sunday and even more cars turned out to compete in the show. There was a strong contingent of modern and classic trucks, along with a wide range of muscle cars from the latest 2024 Mustang Dark Horse to a 1940 Chevy coupe on the property. The strong Sunday turnout made it more challenging for the Bowling Green Mustangs host car club, to judge the contestants and bestow honors on the deserving rides.

We are hitting the highlights from the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Scotts Trailer Sales here, but already looking forward to what will show up for next year’s show.

Trucks made a strong showing at the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Scotts Trailer Sales car show, but none was stronger than Mike Momb’s 1950 Chevrolet 3100. His beautiful pickup hauled away with the Best of Show award, and it is easy to see why. This custom classic was fastidiously detailed from top to bottom, from the built 350 underhood to the airbag suspension underneath. It even features modern creature comforts, including Old Air Products air conditioning, Nu-Relics power windows, Autoloc power door locks, Dakota Digital gauges, and more. Perhaps more impressive than all that, Momb brought the truck down to Bowling Green from his home state of South Dakota to participate in the show, as the show season is so short up north.

With a towering bug catcher feeding two huge carbs, and a TBS Roots blower sticking through its hood, it’s fairly obvious how Robert Merchant’s 1964 Chevrolet Nova powered to the Best Engine honors in Bowling Green.

Al Robinson’s 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle is clean and understated from the outside. That theme continues inside, as its tidy custom interior meshes well with the factory dash. Its sanitary presentation earned the Best Interior honors at the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Scotts Trailer Sales.

As we mentioned, trucks showed up in force at the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Scotts Trailer Sales. Another example of that is Bob and Anna Merchant’s ’58 Chevrolet pickup. Powered by a 427-cube Chevrolet small-block and riding on a Nova subframe and rearend, their truck named Apache Fire drove away from Beech Bend Raceway with the Best Paint & Body award.

Fox Mustangs are hotter than ever in 2024 and Jack Fuzzell brought out his 1991 Mustang LX to the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Scotts Trailer Sales. Powered by a turbocharged Coyote engine breathing through a Holley Sniper EFI intake manifold, his hatch nabbed the Best ’79-’93 Mustang hardware.

Painted in Bridge Water Bronze, Tommy Woodward’s 1967 Chevrolet Camaro is a potent Pro Street machine. With a brawny, carbureted engine underhood and a Lenco in the tunnel, this classic Camaro powered to the Best GM of Show honors in Bowling Green.

Debbie Barr’s Springtime Yellow 1966 Fairline 500 looks as good or better than the day it rolled off the assembly like. Motivated by a nicely detailed, 289-cubic-inch Ford small-block, it muscled to the Best Ford of Show award at the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Scotts Trailer Sales.

Nothing keeps show cars away like rain, but it is worth noting that a dedicated contingent of rides stuck it out on Saturday to earn awards. A case in point is Kenneth Clapp’s 1968 Camaro, which he painted himself. Painting is his hobby, but Clapp also enjoys a shiny engine, and his classic Camaro nabbed the Best Engine hardware on Saturday at Beech Bend Raceway.

Representing the most modern of American performance rides was Rupert Wyatt’s 2024 Mustang Dark Horse which galloped away with the Best Ford Muscle and Fastest Street Car Editor’s Choice, Modernhardware on Saturday in Bowling Green.

Another modern Mustang, Brian Adwell’s 2023 Mustang, earned the Best Late Model honors on Saturday at the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Scotts Trailer Sales.

Mike & Diane McElmore were ready for the rain on Saturday, as they brought a canopy to protect their 1940 Chevy Coupe with its hood raised. This beautiful machine rumbled away with the Best Street Rod and Best Paint awards on Saturday.

Rocking a rough and tumble patina, Bernie Lawrence’s 1937 Chevy scored the

Best Traditional Hot Rod award on Saturday at Beech Bend Raceway.

There were modern trucks on the property as well, and Bonny Raymer’s 2019 Ford F-150 hauled away the Best Truck hardware on Saturday.

On the classic pickup end of the spectrum, Chris Mooneyhan’s 1973 Ford F-100 picked up the Director’s Choice Conservative on Saturday.

In keeping with the pickup theme, Kenneth Mosely’s 1979 Ford F-150 took home the Director's Choice Modified on Saturday at the Scoggin Dickey NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem Presented by Scotts Trailer Sales.
