As the fifth of six stops on the annual Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals tour, the Mickey Thompson NMCA All-American Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, is always an engrossing, edge-of-the-seat experience.

This year’s event, which is Aug. 23-25, 2024, is set to be even more substantial as in addition to awe-inspiring racing, it will feature, for the first time at this venue, the Xtreme Sports Festival on Aug. 24, with BIGFOOT Car Crushes, Pro FMX Motocross, BMX Stunt Shows, Pro Skateboard Exhibitions, Drag & Drive star Tom Bailey, Fan Experience with giveaways, a car show, manufacturers’ midway and more.

Fresh off of the TorqStorm Superchargers NMRA/NMCA Power Festival presented by Nitto Tire & Saturday Thrill Festival in July at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan, racers are now preparing to push as hard as they can to position themselves in points at this next to last race in this season’s championship chase. We asked several of them what they are looking forward to or hoping to accomplish at the Mickey Thompson NMCA All-American Nationals & Xtreme Sports Festival at Summit Motorsports Park. Their responses are below.

“We are coming into Ohio hot and heavy with one goal, and that is to lock up the championship,” said B&K Motorsports driver Bob Glenn, who pilots his Mustang powered by a Brad Anderson HEMI by Bryan Whytas and Hammer roots-style supercharger in VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod and is currently leading points. “We are focused on leaving on Sunday as the well-deserved champion. My team has worked very hard this year and I refuse to let them down.”

“Norwalk is pretty much one of my favorite tracks, and I always look forward to going there,” said David Theisen, who drives his Firebird powered by a big-block Chevrolet by Uratchko Racing Engines in Dart NA 10.5 and is currently in third-place in points. “Hopefully we can go some rounds and maybe get a win versus some tough competition.”

“After a good weekend in Martin with a runner-up in LME Street King and a win in MagnaFuel Open Comp, I need to keep the momentum going in Norwalk,” said Kurt Anderson, who pulls wheels in his Camaro packing an RHS LS engine by Wegner Automotive and is currently in fifth-place in LME Street King and eleventh-place in MagnaFuel Open Comp points. “I am finally figuring out what the new combination likes and learned a few things in Martin, so I am looking forward to Norwalk.”

“I am looking forward to the NMCA Norwalk race as it is one of my favorite tracks on the series and a first-class facility,” said Noah Winters, who holds his own in his Camaro cruising with a big-block Chevrolet which he built with his father, Greg, and is currently in third-place in Erson Cams Nostalgia Muscle presented by World Products. “My focus will be on getting the car dialed in early and hopefully qualifying well to put me in a good position for Sunday. I struggled in Martin with mechanical issues which ended my weekend earlier than I had hoped, therefore I am looking ahead to Norwalk and my hopes are to go some rounds and perform to the ability that I know I am capable of and the car is capable of.”

“I debuted a new Nostalgia Super Stock car at the NMCA event at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, with mixed results,” said Brent Wheeler, who is referring to his Coronet with a Chrysler Wedge engine built by Bill Boomhower and is currently in seventh-place in Nostalgia Super Stock points. “We qualified well, but I let the car down with a lackluster reaction time in round one of Nostalgia Super Stock, but then followed it up with a runner-up in Bracket. I am looking forward to heading to Norwalk and gaining some momentum in the new car. My focus will be on getting my father back on track in his Nostalgia Super Stock wagon there as well.”

“The Norwalk race is one of my favorites, and having the extra Cobra Jet Showdown race brings in some friends I haven’t seen since last year’s race,” said Paul Roderick, who commands attention in his Mustang Cobra Jet with a 5.0L engine and 2.9L Whipple supercharger and is currently sitting in third-place in points in Micro Strategies Super Stock. “My goals are to be competitive and try to win as many rounds as I can. I have been lucky to win a couple Cobra Jet Showdown races over the years. This will be our twelfth year in a row for Norwalk. I really enjoy the NMCA races.”

“Well, I am going into this race second in points after my runner-up finish in Michigan so I am hoping to gain the lead from Taylor Dietsch with any luck,” said Cameron Bowles, who drives his Mustang as well as his grandfather Don Bowles’ Maverick and is currently in second-place in NMCA MagnaFuel Open Comp as well as NMRA ARP Open Comp. “Taylor Dietsch, along with the rest of the racers, are tough. It would be amazing if I could pull off not one but two championships for (crew members) Steve and Cathy Fackender on their last year traveling with us. They have been with us from the start.”
