NMRA Ford Nationals and NMCA Muscle Car Nationals Adopt New NHRA Street Car Safety Standards

Posted By: Steve Baur
The Holley NMRA Ford Nationals and Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals adhere to NHRA safety standards, which have recently been revised with new requirements for 2014-and-newer vehicles.

The new safety rules are effective immediately at all NMRA and NMCA national events, including this weekend’s NMRA Spring Break Shootout and the upcoming NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, both held at Bradenton Motorsports Park. NHRA Street-Legal chassis and driver requirements are extensively outlined in the NHRA rulebook and essentially allow 2014-and-newer vehicles to run as quick as 9.00 (5.40 in the eighth-mile) and/or 150 mph with OEM safety gear and chassis structure. Drivers are required to obtain an NHRA Level 6 license, which you can complete during/at NMRA/NMCA events.

“This is a huge boost for the street car market, which makes up nearly 50 percent of all NMRA and NMCA events. There’s no doubt these new standards will increase participation and get enthusiasts off the streets and into safe and organized drag racing facilities,” said Rollie Miller, General Manager and National Event Director of ProMedia Events & Publishing, parent company of the NMRA and NMCA sanctioning bodies. “We are looking forward to helping any of our customers work through the licensing process to make it as easy as possible.

Enthusiasts are encouraged to review the NHRA safety standards and contact NMRA/NMCA with any questions about their vehicle and how to obtain an NHRA Level 6 license. The team can be reached at [email protected] and please see Gavin Carter or Rollie Miller on-site at any NMRA or NMCA national event.

“The OEM safety standards have increased dramatically over the past 30 years and we appreciate the NHRA recognizing the street car market,” concluded Miller.
