The NMCA community is mourning the loss of "Sponge Bob" Curran, a former champion in the Xtreme Street ranks. Curran and his Grand Sport Corvette helped define a category that has been a staple in street legal drag racing since the early 2000s.
News began circulating of his passing the day after the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing. Details are minimal at this point but the known facts are that he died in a motorcycle crash on July 30, 2018 at the age of 53.
"We are saddened by the news of Bob, he was not only a racer but a close and personal friend of our staff and the NMCA community. His vivacious smile and easy-going attitude will be sorely missed," said NMCA general manager Rollie Miller.
Viewing arrangements are Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Salreno's Rosedale Chapel (Roselle, IL) from 3PM to 9PM.
