Recently, we took a look at Livernois’ 2011-2014 Ford Coyote 5.0L Cam Timing Control Kit.
“When tackling many race-specific builds in the early days of the Coyote engine, we noticed that the adjustable cam gear systems relied on simple friction — and luck — to hold them in place,” said Andy Ricketts of Livernois. “To combat this, we designed a fully interlocking system that allows precise — and easy — 1-degree adjustments, while virtually preventing any chance of the components loosening up or coming out of time.”
The adjustable cam phaser uses a revolutionary design that incorporates a series of billet degree plates and locking teeth that run the full perimeter of the gear face. These plates attach to the front of the factory cam phaser and lock together to create a solid unit. With 360 degrees of interlocking teeth, the unit is exceptionally strong and can handle much higher torsional loads than systems that rely solely on the clamping force of the fasteners. This unit allows for up to 24 degrees of total camshaft movement by loosening the three camshaft bolts to separate the plates, clocking the cam to the appropriate notch, and tightening the bolts. The kit also includes billet VCT solenoid block-off plugs for the OEM cam cover.
