Friday Coverage Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals Presented by Force Engineering

Posted By: Mike Galimi
It is the second day of the Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals Presented by Force Engineering and the cars keep coming in the gate, but fans are limited to just 100 per day, as required by local health laws. Thursday wrapped up with a fast second test sessions where VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod racers were dropping 3.70 runs with ease. Other notable runs were Edelbrock Extreme Street/Renegade racers in the 4.70s, of which Martin Connelley was low for the round with a 4.74 at 150 mph from his ProCharger supercharged ride. In Mickey Thompson/VP Racing Maddatives Street Outlaw it was Rob Goss who posted the quickest test hit as they ran a 4.42 off-the-trailer and were closely followed by Tony Hobson who clipped off a 4.44. Qualifying begins today and stay locked to this website and social media for the latest news. His 698 cubic-inch big-block Chevrolet with five-inch bore space built by Uratchko Racing Engines is backed by a Turbo 400 which Geibel built, and to be in compliance with Dart NA 10.5 presented by Diamond Pistons rules, Geibel and his crew chief, Rick Dodge, replaced his two APD carburetors with a single Book carburetor. They also had to add some weight to Geibel's gorgeous blue Camaro, which rolls on Mickey Thompson tires and features products from Trend Performance, Total Seal Piston Rings and BLP Racing Products. Geibel, who posted consistent a 8.15 and 8.16 in testing yesterday, is shooting for 7s in qualifying and eliminations. "I'm happy to be here," said Geibel. "It's another place to have fun." With the state restrictions in place, we can't welcome as many fans as we would like to the Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Force Engineering this weekend at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, but fans can still see racers and race cars in action via a live feed offered by SpeedVideo. Check it out HERE. A regular in the Outlaw 10.5 ranks at Milan Dragway, Joel Wensley of Dearborn, Michigan is racing his 1969 Camaro in VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod this weekend, and he's doing so with a new ProCharger F-3X-140 where twin turbos used to be in front of his 526 cubic-inch Hemi by Mike Moran of Moran Motorsports. It's backed by a Liberty's 5-speed transmission, and Wensley, who had flown to a best of 4.05 and 189 mph with the turbos and is only a few passes in with the supercharger, is hoping to see 3.90s by the end of the weekend. [gallery size="full" ids="18527,18529,18528"] Bill Atwood made the trip from Connecticut to compete in the Don Baskin Truck Sales Factory Appearing Stock Tire (FAST) category this weekend, and he's behind the wheel of his friend Tom Tarzwell's 1969 Charger 500. Atwood recently built the 489 cubic-inch Hemi for the car, and replaced its four-speed transmission with an automatic transmission with a column shift. Atwood also installed a chrome moly cage in the clean chock-full of character car. Tom was looking for a turn-key car, so I'm doing that for him, said Atwood, who's hoping to put up some 10-second passes this weekend. VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod driver Mike DiDomenico was off to a good start this year when he secured a semifinal finish in his G-Force Race Cars-built and 1968 Camaro-bodied car powered by a 521 cubic-inch Brad Anderson Hemi prepared by Rage Fuel Systems, topped with MBE heads, a Brad Anderson intake and an SSI supercharger and backed by a Liberty's five-speed transmission. He hit a snag, however, when he had rod failure in his high-horsepower engine at the NMCA event at Atlanta Dragway in June, but he's back in action this weekend after Brad Anderson Enterprises helped him and his son and crew chief, Sal, get it back together. He lifted to a 3.81 on a shakedown hit, and data shows he would have been on a 3.70 hit had he stayed in it. Despite the fact that Sal said that they don't have a lot of data for tuning for this track and the current weather conditions, we're confident the DiDomenicos, along with crew members Gary Lucas, Adam Stablein and Blake Molnar, will be ones to watch as the weekend goes on. Bill DiCicco bought his 1968 Road Runner back in 1986, and has been having fun with it ever since. He travels to tracks across the country to take part in the Don Baskin Truck Sales Factory Appearing Stock Tire (FAST) category, and this trip from his home in Connecticut took 14 hours. DiCicco told us that one of the things he loves most about the category is how it forces him to think outside of the box to get his stock-appearing 383 cubic-inch engine and 727 transmission to be competitive while he's laying down high 11s and pursuing his first win. He also said that he loves the camaraderie among the competitors. Eight-time Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle Car driver Andy Warren knows a thing or two about campaigning two race cars in two categories at a race, but he's about to see what it's like to campaign two race cars in three categories. In addition to racing his Caprice, packing a 434 cubic-inch Chevrolet by Knieriem Racing Engines, in Detroit TrueTrac Nostalgia Muscle Car, he's racing Scott Libersher's COPO Camaro, packing a 427 cubic-inch engine, in Coan Engineering Stock/Super Stock Combo and in the Chevrolet Performance COPO Camaro Shootout presented by COPO Parts Direct. We caught up with him as he was changing spark plugs under the hood of the COPO Camaro, and he mentioned that he's aiming for the 10.25 index in the Caprice and 9.20s in the COPO Camaro.
