Kurt Anderson Wheelies to His Fourth LME Street King Championship

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
By Mary Lendzion Through the years, Kurt Anderson has shown just how experienced and exceptional he is behind the wheel. He's very committed and competitive, whether he's in the cockpit of his own 1969 Camaro, his wife, Shawna Anderson's 2001 Camaro, or a fellow racer's car, and he holds his own. Aiming for another LME Street King championship, Anderson, who owns Autokraft Racecars and Restorations in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, started the year in his wife, Shawna Anderson's Camaro, while a 416 cubic-inch LS3 engine featuring AFR heads, a FAST 4500 throttle body, and Mast Motorsports two-piece intake was being put together at Wegner Automotive Research for his Camaro. He qualified in the ninth spot with an 11.01 on a 10.50 index and exited eliminations in the second round after breaking out with a 10.45 at the Whipple Superchargers NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem presented by Holbrook Racing Engines in March at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. I would have to say that Bradenton was a lowlight for me as my buddy, Shawn Calabrese, had the transmission out of Shawna's car twice that weekend to get some issues fixed, said Anderson. Still, in his wife's car, which pulls wheelies like his own car, he qualified in the third spot with a 10.500 on a 10.50 index, right behind two other drivers who also ran right on their indexes, and finished as the runner-up with a 10.52 at the Scoggin Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals presented by MAHLE Motorsport in April at Atlanta Dragway. Anderson then qualified in the eleventh spot with an 11.57 on an 11.50 index and exited eliminations in the third round at the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street-Legal Drag Racing presented by HPJ Performance in May at World Wide Technology Raceway in Illinois. Then, back in his own Camaro, he led qualifying with a 9.77 on a 9.75 index and went to the NMCA Winner's Circle with a 9.77 at the Inaugural Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA Power Festival presented by Force Engineering in July at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan.  Qualifying in the first spot and winning the first race out with my car were highlights of the season, said Anderson, whose car has a leaf spring suspension with CalTrans and FastShocks on all four corners. He went on to qualify in the fourth spot with a 9.77 on a 9.75 index and exited eliminations in the second round after turning on the red light at the NMCA All-American Nationals in August at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio. Ready for an exciting exclamation mark on the season, Anderson, led qualifying with a 9.75 on a 9.75 index, wrapped up another win with a right-on 9.75 and secured his fourth LME Street King championship at the 20th Annual NMCA World Street Finals presented by Chevrolet Performance in September at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana. This is a tough category with so many good racers, and we're all good friends, but when the helmets go on, it's going to be a slug fest, said Anderson, a 2018 MagnaFuel Open Comp champion who finished seventh in that category in 2021. I would like to thank my wife, Shawna, first. She makes sure that everything goes smoothly throughout race weekends, and I couldn't do this without her support. Also, AFR Cylinder Heads came on board with support this year, and I really appreciate the help they have given me, and Summit Racing Equipment always makes sure I get the parts I need to keep this hot rod running perfectly. I also want to give a shout-out to fellow racers Shawn Calabrese and Kevin Lumsden for their help, and to our category sponsor, LME. Anderson will be applauded for his extraordinary efforts at the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals Champions Ceremony, held during the PRI Show on Dec. 10 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, and in the upcoming Champions Issue of Fastest Street Car Magazine.
