One of the things Mike Konigshofer clearly remembers about competing in NMCA Pro Stock back in 2009 is that he made it to the final alongside Charlie Booze, Jr. at Maple Grove Raceway, and one of the things he clearly remembers about competing in OSCA Pro Stock the following year is that he made it to the final alongside Butch Kemp at Toronto Motorsports Park. He was primed, and he was pumped. But he was also forced to climb out of the car to cover long shifts at his job with the Canadian National Railway. In fact, between 2011 and 2014, he was only able to make one NMCA Quick Lane at Downs Ford NA 10.5 race, but he promised himself he would return, and after leaving his former employer and accepting a job as a general manager for On Time Precision Components, a CNC manufacturer in Delhi, Ontario, in 2014, he's able to do just that. To help him catch up to the rest of the competition, he delivered his ladderbar-suspended Fox body Mustang to Gary Rohe Race Cars, where its cage was removed and replaced with a 25.3-spec cage, and where it will receive new headers. Gary also mounted carbon fiber doors and hatch by Schoneck Composites, a RaceCraft wing and a new radiator, and he did interior tin work, said Konigshofer, of Dorchester Ontario. He also installed all of the Lexan windows and did some other small fab work. Meanwhile, Konigshofer who had sold the 399 cubic-inch small-block Ford Aussie Pro Stock engine which had propelled him to an 8.05 at 173 mph purchased an 8.2 deck 414 cubic-inch small-block Ford engine which had been built several years prior by Uratchko Racing Engines, and delivered it to Roush Competition Engines. There, Ron Sharp inspected it and took it from a wet sump to dry sump oiling system, and continues to work with Konigshofer on development programs for the CFE Pro King heads, Ford Motorsports C58 intake and LSM and Comp Cams cams. The plan is to alternate between a CFM carburetor and a Braswell carburetor, and row gears with a Liberty five-speed while rolling on Mickey Thompson 29X10.5 slicks. We had the engine on the dyno last week, and Ron has it apart right now to make cam and intake changes, and then we'll put it back on the dyno, said Konigshofer, whose uncle, John Konigshofer, races his Haas-built and Kaase-powered 2014 Mustang in IHRA Pro Stock, and whose dad, Frank Konigshofer, handles the clutch adjustments. When it's ready, we'll take it to Gary so that he can make the headers. He has his sights set on the rest of the events on the 2016 NMCA tour, and will rely on his crew, including his wife, Trista, daughter Julia, brother, Jeff and dad, Frank Konigshofer, as well as Lee Poetter, Ken and Ryan Handsaeme and Rick Tovey.
