Every time John Warren Sr. was at an NMCA race, or another race, to support his sons, Andy and John Warren, the amount of love he had for them was apparent for all to see.

While helping them campaign their cars, he celebrated their wins and helped them move past their losses.

He also laughed with them, cried with them, shared milestones with them and made memories with them.

It will be all of that love, and all of those memories, that Andy, John, their mom, Brenda, Andy’s wife, Shelby and the rest of the very close-knit Warren family will hold onto, as Warren Sr., of Rineyville, Kentucky, passed away at the age of 71 on July 31, 2022 after fighting illness.

The NMCA community joins the Warren family in feeling the tremendous loss of the beloved U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam war.

“Every time I saw Andy and John at the track, their parents, John Sr. and Brenda, were with them, and soon after I became friends with Andy and John, their parents welcomed me as if I was a member of their family, and John Sr. became like a second father to me,” said NMRA racer Adam Cox. “He was always there for me, and he made sure that I knew that.”

Cox recalled how Warren Sr., who was voted the NMCA Crew Member of the Year in 2015, began talking with a seven-year-old boy who was at the table next to them at a restaurant after a day of racing at the NMCA/NMRA event in Atlanta in 2015, and he found out the boy’s father was in jail and his grandfather was raising him. Warren Sr. personally invited them to the race that weekend and sure enough, they went to the race, where Warren Sr. scooped up the little boy and helped him climb into the cockpit of Andy’s Caprice and John’s Nova. Thanks to Warren Sr., the little boy was even included in the winner’s circle celebration when Andy won in Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle.

“I went to see Mr. Warren days ago, and the last thing I told him was that our lives are about making memories, and that he will always, always be in our memories,” said Cox. “He was a wonderful person, and he touched a lot of people. I’m just so glad the Warren family shared him with us.”

Rest in peace, Mr. Warren. We will wrap your family in love.
