Jennifer Brooke Rice Remains Determined and Runs 7.29

Posted By: Mike Galimi
After a fine fourth place finish in 2015 NMCA ARP Nitrous Pro Street points, Jennifer Brooke Rice of Springfield, Tennessee rolled into the 2016 hungry to do even better, and so far, she has. Despite what she refers to as a series of timing-related nitrous backfires, she drove to a runner-up finish at the 8th Annual NMCA/NMRA All-Star Nationals presented by Miller Welders at Atlanta Dragway in April, and while that's commendable, it was at the 15th Annual Quick Fuel Technology NMCA Bluegrass Nationals at Beech Bend Raceway in May she really shined. There, she qualified third after laying down a 7.29 and 180 mph an improvement over her previous personal best of 7.45 and went on to achieve another runner-up finish. When my dad, (crew chief and tuner Ed Rice) got on the radio and told me how fast I had gone, I started beating on the steering wheel and screaming because I was so happy, said Rice, who also has help from her mother, Marica Rice; brother, Brandon Rice and Kurt Welfel, who races NMCA Gear Vendors True Street. I had been struggling with backfires, and it was getting to me. Dad was scratching his head, trying everything to figure it out, and when it finally came together at Bowling Green, a place where I grew up racing junior-dragsters, and I finally got a good pass with some good data, it felt really good. DSC07541Rice also clocked a personal best 60-foot of 1.02 on that pass, but went on to say that she wasn't quite at full throttle and is poised to go even quicker and faster in her orange and silver Mustang, which is powered by a nitrous-enhanced Frank Ofria-built small-block Ford topped with Brodix heads massaged by Neal Induction Systems, a Powerglide transmission and a Neal Chance converter. The team, which is sponsored by Nitrous Outlet and SuperATV, uses Holley Dominator EFI to lay the tune. Catch the determined driver who can often be found watching friends rock-bouncing in the Southern Rock Racing Series or off-roading in her Polaris RZR at the 15th Annual NMCA All-American Nationals, June 23-26, 2016 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana.
