Racers and fans can’t help but notice that two trucks are doing a lot of work on race weekends. The Chevrolet Silverado HD carries the banner as the Official Truck of the Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals series, and recently two 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD pickups joined the team to keep the series on the move and ensure our racers are as safe as possible at the racetrack.
Decked out in the High Country option, these two four-wheel-drive trucks are painted in a fetching Sterling Gray Metallic hue accented by a Jet Black interior. As you can see in the photos, the NMCA staff transformed the OEM trucks with a broad range of non-standard aftermarket safety equipment (see sidebar) that enhanced their capabilities for the intended task of race support vehicles.
Much of that gear transferred directly from the outgoing Silverado HD pickups to these latest models. However, under all that extra gear are robust trucks that have both the creature comforts and capabilities to ensure those long trips hauling the necessary gear to operate a national event series — including scooters, golf carts, and Power Mall merchandise — in two United Trailers is a comfortable exercise.
“We’ve designed the Silverado HD to be our customers’ favored choice for true truck capability,” Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet said when these trucks were revealed. “The enhancements to the 2024 model build on its core strengths to provide an even stronger balance of the design, strength, and confidence that makes tackling the hard jobs, including trailering, easier and more convenient than ever.”
For NMCA duty, these trucks are optioned with the 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V* engine, which delivers more horsepower and torque than its processor with peak outputs of 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. Designed for more efficient combustion, these engines deliver a 25 percent improvement in low-end torque, which helps get things rolling, especially when a trailer is attached.
That robust powerplant is backed by a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission, which deftly applies all that torque with optimized gear spacing that delivers more responsive performance. This transmission is engineered for smooth shifting and improved control. All told, this combination delivers a towing capacity of 36,000 pounds, which pairs with a huge cargo box that offers 83.5 cubic feet of storage space, which is more accessible thanks to the CornerStep rear bumper, BedSteps, optional six-position Multi-Flex tailgate.
Packaging that improved performance is a revised look inside and out, the 2024 Silverado 3500HD features a fresh front fascia, dual-projector headlights, grille, and C-shaped LED graphic lamps that deliver a muscular exterior. The NMCA trucks also benefit from one of six new paint color options, Sterling Gray.
The revised interior features a new instrument panel highlighted by a 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment display and a 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center. Despite these modern features, the design aesthetic borrows from the style of the C/K trucks from the late ’70s and early ’80s.
All told the muscular stature and capabilities of these heavy-duty trucks are an ideal combination for the Official Truck of the Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals series.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD isn’t just the Official Truck of NMCA; the series deploys two of these muscular haulers to keep the series on the road and the racers safe at the racetrack.
Both trucks are powered by 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 engines upgraded for the 2024 model year to deliver more efficient performance, improved bottom-end torque, and peak outputs of 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque, which in part, allows the truck to tow 36,000 pounds.
While it pays homage to the classic C/K trucks, the modern cockpit of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD benefits from a 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment display and a 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center.
With 83.5 cubic feet of storage, the bed of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD offers plenty of space to haul all the necessary equipment to respond to on-track emergencies
The Official Truck of NMCA shows off its capabilities at every event the Promedia event team produces. Most prominent among the extra equipment installed on these trucks is a 100-gallon, pressurized water/ColdFire tank and a 150-foot hose reel combination, which allows the skilled event crew to put out fires when the need arises.
In addition to the pressurized water tank, the NMCA 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HDs carry a selection of handheld fire extinguishers that ensure the Promedia event team can suppress a fire as quickly as possible.
The truck carries a full complement of tools and safety gear (see sidebar) to handle common emergencies on the racetrack.

These Duramax-powered trucks are optioned with the High Country package, which includes several upgrades, including unique leather seating, open-pore wood trim, decorative glovebox trim, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, 20-inch bright chrome wheels, and more.
Racetracks can be gritty and grimy, and things get even dirtier when you are addressing on-track emergencies. To protect the interior of the trucks, NMCA picked up these Premium All-Weather Floor Liners in Jet Black for the first and second row from Scoggin Dickey Parts Center.
With so many people on the team needing ready access to the trucks, this Keyless Entry Keypad from Scoggin Dickey Parts Center allows those with the five-digit code to gain entry, which is a great benefit when they have to report to an emergency in a hurry.

Not only do the twin 2024 Chevy Silverado HD High Country trucks haul two United Trailers loaded with scooters, golf carts, Power Mall merchandise, and all the necessary gear to operate national events at tracks across the country, but they are fully equipped with an array of safety equipment.
When an on-track emergency occurs, the Race Director puts the call over the radio and ProMedia’s expertly trained event staff rolls into action in these trucks. They are equipped to suppress fires, clean up spills, provide medical assistance, and even extract a trapped driver from a damaged race car.
