Hays Releases New SFI Flywheels for Gen 3 Hemi and Ford Modular Applications

Posted By: Mike Galimi
Hays has expanded its flywheel lineup with four new SFI certified offerings. The CAD-designed pieces are intended for use in late model applications including 2009-2017 Dodge Challenger's with 5.7L, 6.1L or 6.4L Hemis; 2012-2013 Mustangs with 8-bolt crankshaft 5.0L and more. A Hays lightweight aluminum flywheel gives users the opportunity to upgrade a stock flywheel to a stronger and safer SFI-certified version. It delivers faster throttle response and quicker acceleration, providing additional horsepower to the wheels while offering overall weight reduction and excellent heat dissipation. The weight reduction provides reduced clutch wear and stress on engines. It also provides smoother, faster gear shifting along with easier braking and better slowing due to its reduced rotational mass. The reduced rotating mass could also offer the potential for increased fuel economy. All Hays lightweight aluminum flywheels are engineered to handle extreme duty applications along with being designed to take the punishment of today's high horsepower street, race and off-road engines. When choosing a flywheel, note that a heavy flywheel stores more energy as it spins than a light flywheel. If users have a heavy car combination that requires more power (or inertia) to make it launch without bogging the engine, they will want a heavier flywheel. A heavier flywheel will be slower to accelerate through the gears where a lighter flywheel creates less inertia at launch but will accelerate faster through the gears.
