By rocketing to a 3.77 and a second place finish in NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod points last year, Jason Hamstra proved he had a hot combination. It consisted of a mechanically fuel-injected 521ci engine built on a Chuck Nuytten block and topped with Noonan heads and a Mike Janis-built roots-style supercharger, and he had a Coan Turbo 400 transmission and converter underneath his Alan Pittman Race Cars-built 1969 Camaro to help put the power down. But with a desire to have two different combinations at the ready, he swapped his roots-style supercharger with a PSI screw blower over winter, and headed to the U.S. Street Nationals in January at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, where he ran as quick as 3.75 on his way to a runner-up finish in Pro Mod Boost. He followed that with a 3.75 to qualify in the second spot in NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod at the series season-opener, the 16th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 8-11, also at Bradenton Motorsports Park, and then picked up to an even quicker 3.73 on his way to a runner-up finish against Don Walsh Jr. and his 2015 Corvette. That's about what we were trying to do, said Hamstra, who lets his race car do the talking for him. Now, the Indiana-based driver and his crew, including his wife, Patsy, and parents, Kevin and Karen, are preparing for the 10th Annual NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals presented by Mahle Motorsport, April 5-8 at Atlanta Dragway. There, he'll be one to watch as he tries to wrangle up a win and a points lead in the very competitive category.
